- took over a talented but underachieving team after his predecessor was fired
- beat two cupcakes handily before playing his first SEC contest, a a 5-point Gator victory in night game on the road against a team which had finished 5-7 the previous season
- played a home game against a top 5 Ole Miss squad and unexpectedly blew them out by more than three TDs
- saw the AP voters take notice, catapulting them from unranked in preaseason into the top 10
who was this amazing program builder who turned the Gators around so quickly?

Then Will Grier pissed hot from Vitamin Shoppe supplements, got a full 365 day suspension, and it was never the same. That was the real problem.
The shark mounting photo was a good thing. It helped break him mentally into making the death threats comment so he could claim his buyout and walk.

Shark jumper wasn't a terrible coach and that year would have been much better if Grier hadn't popped GNC Temu steroids.
Ended up with Treon Harris running the show and if you know anything about Treon Harris you know how impressive the rest was.
We beat Georgia completing just 8 passes. This beat the 3 completions he had in the previous victory over Georgia.

Florida is becoming the equivalent of “September A&M” when they joined the SEC and always had great Septembers then sputtered as time went on.

But Jim Mac was not a terrible coach like Napier. Just also was not very good
. Also before Mac, and this is very, very important..we had Will Muschamps recruiting beforehand. Much more talented, much better coached(on defense, not offense, which was equally bad). You know how bad Napier was. We all do.
Mac went 22-12. Napier went 22-23
Same amount of wins, 11 more losses.

McElwain was not a bad coach from a purely on-the-field perspective. He failed because he was lazy/disorganized and allowed certain aspects of the program to go to shite, namely recruiting and strength and conditioning.
