Ah, the moveable goalpost.

I mean, if your argument is that UGA's defense is the best one in the past 5 years, I doubt many people are going to argue. 2017 Alabama is the only one that probably comes close, and I personally wouldn't make that argument (though the overall defensive talent on that team is pretty impressive - including Trevon Diggs).

If you're 16 years old and only consider teams that existed since you started growing body hair, then I don't know what to tell you.

Alabama gave up twice as many TDs to Mercer as UGA defense has given up in 5 games this season.

No one here is making the argument that 2021 Alabama has a better defense than 2021 Georgia.

This is a REALLY confusing post when you look at what you're replying to...

UGA is really, really good but it's not like they've played juggernaut offenses to this point.

This is a seriously weird argument.

That’s just how the Rant works though they keep changing their narrative on teams so the overall narrative stays the same

Arkansas was a top 25 offense averaging over 40 ppg until they got blanked in Athens

Not sure I can come up with one even remotely recently. The early Saban defenses were good but not like this

There’s that classic rant narrative!

you ask people to make an argument and then pull this bulls hit when they do. WTF is wrong with UGA fans this year? Your D is REALLY good, but it was really good last year and the year before too until it went against top flight offenses. This year’s version may very well be better, but 4-5 teams you have played are really shitty offensive teams.

A feW facts about 2011 alabama's defense that may give you a doubletake.
1) They only played 9 P5 opponents all season.
2) the average national offensive scoring ranking of their p5 opponents was 70.88.
3)the median national offensive scoring ranking of all opponents was #72 Miss St (25 ppg) (this excludes FCS georgia southern).

Georgia will play up to 14 FBS opponents and 13 P5 opponents in 2021.
I would not be shocked if the average ranked scoring team ia better than 70 and the median ranked scoring team is better than 72.

So basically everyone that could still make the championship game will likely play 14 FBS and 13 P5 teams?

UGA plays great defense every year against the most dynamic offenses in college football that is why so many defensive players are taken in the first round of the draft

While the Rant is definitely guilty of this, not everything is just there to attack Georgia.

Arkansas was having a heartwarming, underdog season. A lot of folks, even those in the same division, want to see them do well (they've been through a LOT of shite).

That being said, a lot of your more objective observers saw flaws in that offense.

Their opposition was ranked at game time, but it wouldn't surprise me if Texas skirts the outside of the top 25 (of course, in what is possibly the weakest Big 12 I can remember, it's possible Texas backdoors all the way to the playoffs only to get steamrolled worse than 2012 Notre Dame) and A&M finishes unranked. People thought A&M was a good team before the season started; that perception around here disappeared after they barely beat Colorado 10-7. It became clear A&M was fool's gold. A&M really just stayed ranked because no one knew if anyone else was worthy of being up there.

Everyone wants that "feel good" story, and Arkansas was it. Terrible previous seasons, new coach suddenly making them at least appear as a contender, but any objective analysis would see that Arkansas was a terribly one-dimensional offense. Georgia, being ridiculously stout at DL, was Arkansas' kryptonite - there was no way Arky was going to be able to stretch the field with the passing game. It was over before it began.

If it makes you feel better to think that we're all just "anti-Georgia", go ahead. All most of us are saying, though, is to look at your defense objectively before making statements that imply that you cannot think of a SINGLE defense in the same conversation as Georgia's (as OP did).

. Is there no rational UGA fan that can see that the best offense you have played being top 50 before UGA played them is not the strongest argument for being the best of all time, or in recent memory, or whatever other nonsensical way Dawgs want to portray their team? Ole Miss was convinced they had an unstoppable offense and then they played a team with a decent defense.

It isn’t UGA’s fault the offenses they’ve played aren’t great, and they have seriously taken care of business. Lots of fans can see they are very good, but this need for validation has gotten ridiculous.

IF Georgia continues at this current pace, 13 P5 teams is 44% greater than 9. Georgia will hit 9 P5 teams after facing Tennessee in Knoxville. We can circle back to the defensive numbers at that time if desired.

Said it earlier today on another thread - the '92 (?) defense under Stallings at Alabama. The team that beat Miami. All eleven starters made an NFL roster. I may have that particular year wrong.

Only scratch against that team was Florida in the SEC title game. Spurrier started running shovel passes, with Emmitt Smith, as their ends over-penetrated. And that was the ONLY scratch against them.
