Man that is surprising to me. He was lights out as a staffer here but stepped away to spend more time with family and watch his son play ball.

I guess I just assumed that if he ever got the itch again it'd be at UGA in some capacity instead of the pressure cooker that is DC at a program like texas (yes, obviously I know his history there).

Grand slam hire for texas.
Not much to add to this post. It's how I feel, too.

Disappointing to lose a defensive coordinator who absolutely owned Aggie and OU.

Neither team could do anything against his defense, the last two years.
To be fair, it wasn't hard to own OU's offense the past two years. Aggie a different story.

Sweet. Count a win against Texas as well next year.

This is an upgrade for what Sark wants to do. PK is one of the best defensive coordinators in the nation, but muschamp has an aggressive, man-to-man defense that goes better with Sark‘s offense. He had the best defenses when he was at Texas last time.

I love PK, what he did (especially to OU and A&M) these past 2 years has been great. Let’s not forget that the defense did under perform this year despite the massive amount of money we have invested on that side of the ball. Out defensive front should have been a top 2 unit in college football and we weren’t even a top 15.

Don’t be salty because he didn’t make it as hc at Florida. Hes always been a tier 1 DC.

He absolutely needs to hire an OC, but this is a great hire for Texas even if I agree that Pete did a good job here. There's got to be something else in the background motivating this because I'm not sure improvement on what was already a solid unit is enough to spur this decision.

Pete's defense did struggle against elite QBs and, far too often, let teams back in games but the defense was clearly the better unit overall.

Until someone else is designing and calling plays as OC this changes nothing for us. Sark still can't beat Day and we'll lose that game in Austin next year.

You guys have really hung your hat in this one. CFP participation trophies are pretty awesome though.

Dude, it was a respone to someone who took a shot at Texas for being unable to make the playoffs.

Sark is melting down trying to stay with OU… maybe he could fire himself for having the 48th ranked offense this year lol … he reminds me of Brian Kelley… will never accept blame . Firing the only good coach he has is great for OU! We kicked Muschumps arse..

No, if anything, Sark is melting down trying to stay with Georgia, since they're the only team he can't beat.

aggy has started the SEC era with Texas the same way they performed in the SWC era, which is the same way they performed in the Big 12 era

And no conference championship since 1998... Ouch

Sark has had enough of dropping elite pass rushers like Ant Hill and Colin Simmons into coverage on 3rd down. Enough of the bend but don’t break. Enough soft coverages in the secondary. Texas didn’t create nearly enough pressure and turnovers this year with talent they had in the front seven. PK is a very good defensive coordinator but Sark wanted a different style. He tried to hire Muschamp when he took the Texas job. Clearly the opportunity finally presented itself and he told PK to head west.
I liked PK, but Coach Boom is an upgrade.

PK's defense against Florida was pathetic, giving up two 10+ play TD drives in the 1st half. His prevent defense resulted in two games giving up 21 second half points, that turned laughers into "close" games.

If Texas "fired" PK, it was probably mutually agreed in a manner that paid him money and negated a new team from having to buyout his Texas contract. He wanted to get back to the pacific NW, probably as Oregon's DC.

Muschamp was always Sarks 1st choice for DC. I thought M made a choice that allowed him to see his kids grow up. Didn't the older one play at Georgia?

M's wife likes Austin. I read they kept their house and vacation here.

PK wasn't a recruiter, and clearly not from around here. Guys will want to play for Muschamp, the attacking, high light reel kind of defense.

I don't expect we will see Colin Simmons dropping back in pass coverage anymore, or giving receivers 10 yard cushions.

Texas has a lot of great players, good culture guys, soft spoken and quiet, lead by example kind of guys. Muschamp will energize and elevate those guys.
