Gotta say, I'm impressed with how well MSU has looked in their first two games with JM.
As good or better than last year. Hard to do with a transition like this.

Defense looks very good. DL can definitely get after it.

Lots of speed at skill positions. NF looks as good as ever. Doesn't seem to have much of a mental block coming back from injury either.

Only question, and I haven't seen anything that would make me feel giving it an answer of yes, is can NF perform consistently from the pocket. He had two TDs in this game to wide open WR downfield and overthrew them by a mile.

I think he'll have to do better than that to have a shot at knocking off a Bama or Auburn.

But you can't take them lightly. That's for sure.

Saw and felt the same. Mullen walked from the best team he would have had.

The d is elite.

I just don't see it, not consistently. It's just not him.

So, MSU has to be consistent in keeping him in situations where he can excel

They lack SEC play. Im not high on them yet until I see that.

It is like Peter Burns said if the jersey said Texas, USC or Ohio State they'd be a top 10 team and the hype would be unreal.

The only thing holding this team back is NF’s arm. If he cant knock rust off and hit the deep ball MSU can play with Bama, but that is a big if and I’m not sure he can.

I mean he should be motivated too. Think about his size and stature, he has Josh Allen type physical talent just needs to improve his accuracy a lot.

Fitz still can’t throw it. If any team can limit their run game they will be shut down on offense.

I think the problem is that MSU still doesn't have an SEC WR.

Fitz looks real bad on some throws, but if your target isn't there then where do you throw it? When he does get an open target it almost surprises him

2 games into the season, I don't know why anyone would say we are better this year than we were in 2014.

I’m hopeful we’ll be able to get the kinks worked out with our deep ball in these next two games. I’m not expecting us to become world beaters passing the ball, but I think we haven’t come close to this team’s ceiling in that regard. News out of camps all year was how much better Nick had gotten at passing and how sure-handed our receivers were. Camps and scrimmages ain’t real games, but I have a hunch we’re still operating with some untapped potential.

Kylin + Nick + our OLine is more than enough threat to open up one on ones down the field. If we start connecting on those, hoo boy

We are much better in the trenches (both lines) than we were in 2014, and it's not even close. That is where we look the part big-time, and others are taking notice.

We aren't as good at QB, and we don't have the playmakers at WR that we had that year. But I think Moorhead is overcoming that with offensive schemes. But the defense is legit....much more than 2014 was.

We also didn't have a Kylin Hill then, either. People laughed and said Moorhead was only good at PSU because of Saquan Barkley. It can at least now be argued that his offense schemes have a lot to do with creating Saquan Barkley's if they have the talent for it. Kylin Hill looks to be the latest beneficiary.

this is by far the best D-front since DDavis, Golliday and Blade.

I always remember those guys walking back after every snap, pulling their jerseys back on from being held so much

D coordinator needs to get them to gel consistently. It's the first two weeks though and they'll be better every week.

Guidry looks the part.

Hill and Williams both had some bad drops that would have been big plays in the game against Kansas State. Overall I thought he passed pretty well, he just looked too amped up.

Back in those days, in just about every game....there always came a point that you knew whoever we were playing was done offensively. They would come out and move the ball a series or two, but once our guys adjusted, they were done.

I remember playing Clemson in the Peach Bowl that year and telling a guy next to me from Clemson at one point mid-game that they were done. They just didn't have an answer for it.

Our D-line this year is better than that one was. The key difference for us is that we don't have a Smoot and Bean on the corners this year. If we had that kind of talent in the secondary on top of this D-line, I don't think anyone would score on us.

I miss LB's who make 10-20 tackles too. Todays offenses just keep them out of the action as much as possible, I guess

Nick just isn't a pocket passer but that's ok. Games in the SEC are won and lost in the trenches which we are strong at. Auburn, Alabama, Georgia, and possibly LSU are the only teams in the SEC that can match or exceed us in line talent. To beat those Fitz is going to have to show up big

You couldn't see Dorsett Davis' #77 after the first series, 'cause whoever was across from him just starting tackling him

I agree. I think Guidry is a potential TD every time he touches the ball. Just have to find a way to get him the touches. Mitchell and Dontea Jones are physical mismatches and both capable. Austin Williams is another one. Fitzgerald will at some point have to learn he doesn't have to be perfect, just close with those guys down the field. Then its on them to catch it or prevent the int, but physically they are capable of winning the fight on 50/50 balls which is something we have lacked for a couple of years.

Pretty sure Dorsett Davis wore #98 but I understand the confusion....it probably looked like 77 the way his jersey stayed crumpled up all game.
