Shocked by this.

Kendall Rogers ?@KendallRogersD1 10m10 minutes ago
Nick Mingione did a really nice job as an assistant at @HailStateBB. Has ties to Barnhart, #Kentucky, and will bring some energy to LEX.

According to sources, Mississippi State assistant Nick Mingione will be named new head baseball coach at Kentucky.

Didn't think he's even been an candidate at a smaller school before. Good recruiter though. The Cohen tree is growing.

Good hire, didn't even see him mentioned as a possible candidate.

Seems like they could have done a little better than Mingione.

This season was really the first one where we had a good hitting team under him.

Not sure why Johnson would make a lateral move to Arkansas

We improved in every category with Butch Thompson gone this year. Maybe with Mingione gone we can finally win the 'ship!

It's a high risk, high reward. Barnhart likes him and he's been at UK under Cohen so he knows the situation.

We'll see.

A pretty solid if not overwhelming hire. Saw some chatter after it was announced that Barnhart/UK took swings at some big names but got turned down.

Seems like a great recruiter and someone that might be able to bring some energy to the program.

Have any of you State fans heard this rumor? Kendall tweeted it a bit ago.

Kendall Rogers @KendallRogersD1

Could be an interesting summer for @HailStateBB. I’ve heard Wes Johnson is a very very serious candidate for Arkansas PC job as well.

He's from Arkansas. I believe his wife is from Arkansas. And supposedly she stuck around in Dallas rather than moving to Starkville because of the schools.

Could be the perfect storm for Arkansas.

They'll definitely see improvement in recruiting. It could end up being a really good hire. Congrats to Coach Mingione.

Cohen makes top notch hires, we'll be either as well off, or better off.

I've always said when Cohen left for Starkville that Nick should had been the coach over Hendo. I like the hire. He does well, I can see him here for the long haul.

Or maybe stuck around in Dallas because he was hired in October. Either way - I don't think he leaves until it's a HC job. The freshmen class he has now is going to be really good.

This is good to hear. Arkansas has put a slew of pitchers in the majors recently so Van Horn has a great selling point.

Maybe so. I certainly haven't talked to her. I read that on elitedawgs, who actually reported the interest yesterday.

I was a Mingione fan. Good pick up for UK. If he has familiarity with the program that is what UK needs. Swing for the big names and if they don't work out find a guy that knows the ins and outs and will stick around a while. A job like UK is not for everyone so find someone that wants it.

If Johnson does get hired as a HC that's 3 coaches in 2 years. That says a lot for Cohen. State might be down next year after losing 11 players due to draft and possibility of 2 coaches. What do I know though? I didn't think we would swept by Arizona either.
