Most underrated week 3 matchup… State v USC

It's the next step for State to see if they can be competitive this year.
1. Beat ULM. They boat raced them, so check.
2. Go on the road and beat a mid level Big 10 team in Minnesota. Handled them handily, check.
Now see if you can win on the road against a mid SEC team. USC has played Kent St and Towson. Minnesota is much better than both of those teams.
Sellers has a lot of talent, but he struggles against good teams. Can put up stats but it doesn't always mean points. His 1 - 2 TDS usually come with 1-3 interceptions. If State keeps him bottled up and makes him throw, I like their chances.

Yes, I'll be dialed in on this one since we play both teams in the next couple of weeks. Very interested to see if State is actually as advertised.

The more people that pick State in this game, the more confident I get in SC. SC always chokes when they have high expectations or they are the favorite. They play much better as a team with an underdog attitude.

Any real State fan is cautiously optimistic about the team. I like the way they are looking, but we don't know exactly what we have. If they manage to go 4-0 by the time y'all come to town, it could be interesting, but that's when the gauntlet starts.

I think is a 6 win season as the floor with a realistic shot at 8 and a very outside chance at 10

It's going to hinge on Sellers. If State can't stop him from passing effectively, then they lose.

Sellers and the wide receivers were arse last week. They both have to step up this week.

Its definitely a good undercard matchup. Both teams just outside the Top 25 so winner has a chance to move into the rankings.
Kent State and ULM are fairly even matchups. Both teams dominated the opening week. Minnesota is way better than Towson. Sellers could not throw the ball effectively against Towson, but ran the ball well.
The key to the game is whether State's defense is as improved as it has looked. State was an average defense from being an 9-win team last year, and their offense is clicking. They have scored on every first half drive this season. The defense has only given up one score, and it was against 3rd and 4th stringers on a long run.
This feels like State going into LSU in 2014. State has a chance to show out, but Carolina is good enough to win this game.
Here's what I don't like about Carolina. They played a bad FCS program in Towson and it if not for a punt return TD, it was 10-3 at halftime. Carolina's first three drives were fumble, punt, missed FG, then had another INT in the second quarter.
3rd quarter they got a touchdown, but then gave up a TD and gave the ball up on downs. It was 24-9 and they got another punt return to put the game away.
If you cant move the ball against Towson, you arent going to move it against any SEC team. Special teams TDs are rare and you can't count on them.

To me it boils down to State's defense being able to get off the field on third down. They're going to have to get stops this week.

I saw that, but he also had a good game against Kent St. I can't call anything at this point. Seller is dangerous, so they better be ready for him.

That will be huge. Third and longs especially; I don't want to see Seller rip off long 3rd and long scrambles for a first down.

SC either plays like a Top 4 SEC team or a Bottom 4 SEC team. There's generally no in between with them. If Sellers plays well then I think SC wins by 10+. If he plays poorly then I think Miss State could sneak this game out.

Lebby's good on script, but his playcalling goes to arse when off script. He's traditionally terrible in third quarters.
The thing to watch for is if State can build an early lead. If they don't, look for SC to be the better team late.
For State to win, they have to execute in the first half and get some stops. When the adjustments start happening, that will be SC's opportunity to turn the tables.

Mississippi State has lost 8 of their last 9 against SC and is the underdog with a QB making his first start on the road in the SEC. It's a pretty fair statement to say "sneak".

gotta be the first-ever SEC football game with Brother-in-Laws calling the plays against each other -
Beamer's wife is from Starkville and her family has many ties to MSU - many things outside of the game itself goin on this week -
Carolina wins if it plays with the focus and effort from week one - State wins if Carolina plays like it did against Townsend (Todd Ellis
)

Sellers was fine against Towson. He had two or three legit shite passes. His WRs dropped damn near everything. Harbor dropped two perfectly thrown TDs on back-to-back plays, and SC came away with 0 points on that possession. Tuggle dropped three that hit him directly in the hands. Mateo Bennett went off script and ran a dogshit route that should have been an easy AF touchdown.
He's looked lightyears better in Briles' system than he did in whatever the frick Shula was running.
I expect SC to run the ball, and hard. They'll want to grind the Grinders.
