Think a better headline for this chart would be most recognizable brands by region. Blanketing entire regions as most “fans” is just dumb. I know in Louisiana there are more groupie Alabama fans than there are Texas fans. And there are more LSU fans in Texas than there are Texas fans in Louisiana.
Regardless, this is an extremely lazy and pointless chart that some numbnut intern put together on PowerPoint for some clicks.

Well let’s just say Most Popular doesn’t = National Championships in the last 20 years in the three major sports. What do have like two

Ohio State is not popular in the state of Michigan, nor most of the other B1G states.
LOL....Ohio State has by far the largest fanbase in the country.... and it's not even close..... Their alumni are everywhere.... Why do you think they get choice TV every week..... They practically are the FOX network like Notre Dame is CBS.

Who knows, but I am guessing in that region they are not #1 and certainly not in the states of MI, WI, PA, etc.

They are technically the largest fanbase in the country
So you could just call the United States a region and make it 100% red
Which is the problem with this map
It doesnt really mean anything

I would guess Notre Dame is the most popular in both the Northeast and North Central regions if not all 4 regions.

Michigan and Michigan State both had more total TV views and they are a bordering state North of South Bend
Not even counting Ohio State they are at best third within a few hours drive

The TV networks sure love it though.

I’d say the Irish are likely third in the North Central behind Ohio State and Michigan as that is where the vast majority of both their fan bases are from.
But with the North East encompassing major metropolitan areas like NYC, Boston and Philadelphia as well as New Jersey, New York and New England, I’d be pretty certain Notre Dame is ahead of Penn State and their mostly Pennsylvania-based support.
ND’s fan base is historically more dispersed and centred a lot around large metropolitan areas like Chicago and those along the upper east coast. Places with long history of Catholic, often Irish, immigration.

I would’ve guessed one of the Mississippi schools would’ve had the largest fans.
