If Texas A&M had defeated LSU in 2012, they would have won the tie-breaker over Alabama and represented the West that season.
A game that "decides" a division means that winner takes all because of that game, not because of some other game results. If LSU beats bama that year, bama's loss to aggy the following week means nothing...LSU still wins the west.

But your criteria were that not only would the loser have won the division if they had won that game, but the winner went on to win the division. If you count any game that could have changed the standings, then lots of games have decided the west. Hell, LSU would have won the west in 1997 if we had beaten Ole Miss, so did that game decide the west? We would have won it in 2006 if we had beaten Auburn, so did that game decide the west?

It looks like LSU has been in more games that decide the West than any other school followed closely by Auburn, then Arkansas, Alabama, and then the rest.

You forgot 1998 Arkansas vs. Mississippi State.

You're right, he violated his own criteria by listing that one. LSU did not win (or even share) the West by beating A&M in 2012.

Here come all the LSU fans to tell you why the west runs through them every year.

And yet, Alabama has been to the most SECCGs of any West team by a wide margin.

This is the stupidest post I've ever seen. I'm an Auburn fan but Bama Tennessee is a better series. M45Auburn is a nutcase

Nice work, outside of the admission of MSU/Arkansas in '98. Very interesting.
I was surprised to see '93 Alabama/Arkansas on that list, since we sucked so bad that year (new head coach, but still walloped LSU). Alabama thrashed us 43-3 in BDS that year, but was later forced to forfeit the game by the NCAA, so I guess Arkansas is the retroactive SEC-W champion for '93.

2013 is the only year I know of when the loser of this game went on to win the West.
The game is often in September or October so it's usually difficult to know how much meaning the game will really have at season's end. Usually more of a barometer of where the teams are at that point in the season. Since 1992, the game has been played after Halloween only twice and one of those games was postponed to December because of the 9/11 attacks.
So yeah, it's definitely been a factor in tiebreakers come December but LSU/Auburn is rarely late enough in the year to decide the West *at the time the game is played*. 2001 is the only year that it truly decided the West.

I think his point is that in all the listed instances, the winner of the game would have won the West, regardless of which team won. So it doesn't matter when the game was played, and the 2013 game wouldn't count, since the loser won the West.

That is completely not true and not even possible. Bama has been to the SECCG the most and therefore has played in more games that decided the west. Just asinine to have Bama 4th.

He started in 92. And also it's possible because I'm sure the years Bama was dominant, the west was already decided and didn't come down to a particular game

You can go ahead and put this year on that list for Bama vs LSU

Please Auburn fans, take them for a rival.
I'm sick of telling them no.
