It is not now,nor has it ever been legal to get married to a first cousin in Alabama.

Once upon a time, however, common law marriage existed, and you could be allowed to claim spousal rights if you lived together as man and wife for X number of years, regardless of familial relationship. The state no longer recognizes common law marriage, so not only can you not marry a first cousin, you also can't shack up with one for years until you're allowed to claim them on your state tax return.
