New Orleans
Memphis

Baton Rouge

Atlanta

I love LSU but, for the life of me, can't figure out why parents would let their kids go to Baton Rouge,

What do most of these places have in common?

Surprised Montgomery hasn't been mentioned. It's the Baton Rouge of Alabama. A woman last Friday was sitting at a red light in the middle of the day in not what is considered a bad part of town...was caught in the crossfire between two wastes of oxygen. She's now paralyzed for life. They, of course, haven't been found.

I travel often for work to most of the places that have been mentioned. If you're talking about the city proper, Jackson, MS and New Orleans are third world level. I grew up near Montgomery...it has fallen drastically since the early 90s...it usually coincides with new city "leadership" being voted in and anyone with any means getting the F out.
The poor woman worked at a brokerage firm. It's very sad that her life as she knew it is over and it was caused by the crime ridden scum in Montgomery.

The Eastdale Mall area is not necessarily "good" part of town, but it's certainly not the Rosa Parks Drive or Court Street bad part either. Not to be out done by paralyzing an innocent woman, there were an additional 3 homicides that took place over the weekend as well.

It just so happens the Chief of Police, Darryl Albert (former Commander of Field Operations in New Orleans) is currently on administrative leave for sexual misconduct. Montgomery is a straight shithole.
Edit: News just broke the Chief of POLice just resigned.

Yeah..short story is... Going to Graceland and gotb into an accident. We pulled off the main street into a neighborhood and while waiting a pro comes up starts talking to my 20 yr old brother.. After she figured out he wasn't buying "What about you young man, you look man enough" I remember saying "No ma'am" then my brother telling her to move on. Then about 50 ft down ..she saw an old man pushing a lawnmower down the side walk (on other side of street) and she yelled at him " hey old man, what you gonna do with that $10 you getting forv cutting grass?'. And he yelled back " I ain't gonna f+ waste it on your f- Nasty self". She said "alright" ..and kept on walking.

Of all the things hookers take...rejection may what they take best

The North Side of Birmingham is bad. The South Side not as bad but bad.

And hell even Alabama. Ever hear of Prichard, Alabama? was lovely when I grew up there and Chickasaw in the 70's. Now it's a shithole.

I don't know what's worse Prtchard or Bessemer. All I know is that I feel safer in Walker Co than Bessemer

I think one of the reasons Memphis is so bad is because they have a catch and release policy for criminals. Officers make arrests, but the courts don’t keep them in jail. Gang members aren’t afraid to catch a charge in Memphis because they’ll be walking out of jail by the time the paperwork is done.

I don’t know how the surrounding states handle this, but I could definitely see gang members in surrounding states “commuting” to Memphis to sell drugs and extort small time players with violence since the judiciary system in Memphis is so lenient with repeat violent offenders.

Is Birmingham Southern University's shutting down due to lack of enrollment caused by being in such a bad part of town?

The answer is yes. If they would have moved the campus to the suburbs they would be thriving. The brutal rape, torture, and murder of one of their coeds in the 70s started the downfall

When the hurricane put NO under water it ran a great many thugs to city’s in a circle of Houston , Jackson, Memphis ,Birmingham, and the Greater Mobile area. If you check there will be a spike in crime for the year after the storm in this area.Houston may have been most affected but they all got a new breed of thugs.

Yep, right next door to my home away from home.

I blame The Bulldog personally. When they ended the Wednesday draft beer keep the glass night, everything went to shite.

Glad nothing violent happened. They told us Graceland is under 24hr 365 a day armed security. Easy to see why.

Man I haven't heard the bulldog in a while! Talk about sketchy. About 12 years ago was the last time I went there.

Social economic class changed fast in that place.

don't see it lasting to much longer. The young lawyers and doctors etc stayed in East over, Fondern for a long time. Now they are moving to Brandon and Madison areas instead of staying in Jackson.

There will always be a large amount of med students living in Fondren, and the District. Most of the commuters live in Flowood.

St. Louis...specifically the north/near north side. The metro as a whole struggles b/c of the geographically small pocket of very high crime in the city. These statistics are then applied to a city with only 66 square miles (need to do the city/county merger in our lifetime). Outside those tight geographic boundaries, STL City and Metro is a fine place (I grew up in the area with STL being the nearest "big city").

KC, where I now make my home...yes crime is bad in some areas. But KC metro is a great place. I know it's on the far outer limits of where most in the south would think of travelling, but check it out some time.

Only two cities in north america have had their championship parades ruined by gunfire.
