Response to earlIer post about 2001 Miami. No. 9 was a reference to Auburn, not Texas.

Wouldn't that be referring to Auburn?

And no Bana team is in the realm of '95 Nebraska or '19 LSU. Just the facts.

I agree. 2018 Alabama had a chance, but choked and lost it once it made it to the SECCG.

But according to the metrics used to justify LSU, 2009 Alabama > 95 Nebraska.

Which proves LSU's 2019 claim is bullshite, because 2009 Alabama is not > 95 Nebraska, and neither is 2019 LSU.

Oh, I guess so.

My bad. Usually it's Texas being talked about when "#9 at the time" is mentioned.

All good. I think the Texas team kind of hit a classic decline after an early season top 10 loss and was probably a good team when we played them. That said though, the final ranking and record is what it is and that's all you can go by.

As far as 1995, Nebraska, they played 4 teams ranked in the top 10 when played (3 in the regular season (8, 7 & 10) and 4 top 10 teams in the final rankings (2, 5, 7 & 9). Worst games, 14 point win over unranked Washington State, and 22 point win over no. 7 Colorado. Margin of victory in the National Championship game, 38 points (62-24).

I don’t think anyone can be fairly criticized if they think 95 Nebraska was the best team ever. It’s a close call, but I do think that overall, LSU 2019 had the best season ever.

However one ranks number 1 and 2, LSU is in the top 2 best ever teams.

Nebraska dominated everyone they played pretty much. Their lowest as you mention was 14 points, which is only 1 point lower than the 3 lowest of LSU's combined(15 - Texas 7, Alabama 5, Auburn 3).

LSU needed a better defense. Had the offense, but not the defense.

The only other team to come that close to dominating everyone else was 2018 Alabama. But that was lost in the SECCG when Alabama barely won. And of course, any debate ended after the Clemson game.

OP has been working overtime to make sure he can spin out as many "tell us how great LSU is!" threads as possible over the last few days.. 2001 Miami or 95 Nebraska is still the GOAT. Don't let the propaganda confuse you.

Talk about working overtime. You been a good arse-hurt anti LSU soldier.

2013 Florida St - 12
That team doesn’t get the credit it deserves because of a weak ACC, but they were stacked with talent.

Texas is always over-rated. I think it is more that LSU improved over the season. Better team at the end of the season than the start, especially on defense.

Texas, Michigan, USC and Notre Dame are always and forever over-rated.

2013 A&M - 11 games with 40+ / 13 games played = 85% 2019 LSU - 12 games with 40+ / 15 games played = 80% Why would an LSU fan brag about this stat?

Did you look at A&M’s schedule that year lol.
Such powerhouses as Rice, Sam Houston St, SMU, UTEP, Vandy and Missouri from the East and capped the season against a powerhouse Duke in a bowl game.

The greatest ever huh. Doesn’t sound like a team with that title should have their smallest point margin win against a 3 win team, but that’s just me. LSU had some close games but they were top 10 ranked conference games. Not 3 win Unranked teams lol.

It was a 14 point difference. Not 7, not 5, not 3. Which you have to add together to get a MoV higher than their 1 game.

Among them was a team who finished the season #25/UR in the polls.

The jealous mind can take them wherever they want.

All of a sudden, they’ve knighted for Tom Osborne and Larry Coker over Nick Saban JUST to prove this point.

4340 will come up with some pretzels hot out of the oven. Just watch.

Keep melting gump. Our defense shut down the final 3 teams we played when it mattered the most

Dang, you guys are milking the hell out of last year.

You should though, won't have another year like that in a while.

Southeastern Conference teams*
2019 LSU - 12
2013 Texas A&M - 11
1996 Florida - 10
2018 Alabama - 10
2019 Alabama - 10
2011 LSU - 9

One of these things is not like the other...

ETA...
1996 Scoring Defense National Rankings (Florida Opponents):
3. Florida State x2 -11.4 ppg
6. Tennessee - 14.3 ppg
7. Alabama - 15.1 ppg
22. LSU - 18.5 ppg
37. Vanderbilt - 21.3 ppg
47. Auburn - 22.5 ppg
48. Georgia - 23.4 ppg

That is 8 of their 13 games against teams that averaged giving up less than 24 points per game (24 points set as cap since that was the scoring average base for the top 50 that season and stats beyond #50 were not readily available).

Compare that to LSU's 2019 schedule:

1. Georgia - 12.2 ppg
2. Clemson - 13.5 ppg
12. Florida - 18.3 ppg
15. Alabama - 19.9 ppg
23. Auburn - 21.2 ppg
38. Northwestern - 23.6 ppg

That is 6 of LSU's 15 games against teams that averaged giving up less than 24 points per game (24 points set to compare with the '96 Florida team).
