I like that LSU is going on the payment plan for the buyout. Kinda' like layaway, back in the day.

Dude, you said exactly what I quoted you as saying.

They basically said we give you the buyout money but you’re not going to coach anywhere for 4 years.

That appears to be wrong, based on the reports. Not prohibited from any coaching position, not “anywhere,” and not for 4 years.

Bro, you have me mixed up with someone else.

I posted the Termination Agreement for you. I had read it already. That is not my quote.

I doubt Ed is going to take another job soon. He got a good payday, and I suspect he needs some time to decompress.

He's not young and hungry anymore, like a lot of the guys Saban takes on. He's 60, won a title and seems to have enjoyed the perks of winning, and his practice photos look stressed. By being allowed to finish the year, I think he views this more as an early retirement (just my take).

Thanks. Look at paragraph 4(c). That’s what governs the issue we’re talking about. As Dellenger reported, it only restricts O from a head coaching job, within the SEC, for 18 months.

I feel like I’m taking crazy pills. Yes, I know. That’s why I said this on page 3:

quote:

The Termination Agreement also contains a restrictive covenant, which prohibits O from serving as or becoming employed as a head coach [in] the SEC for 18 months.

Young ? No. Hungry ? Still looks like a yes to me.

You’re right; my bad. It was LSUfan who said the things I quoted. He was wrong.

Thanks for the link to the separation agreement.

Bottom line is that after this season, O could take an assistant’s job anywhere, or a non-SEC head coaching job. And after 18 months, he could coach anywhere in any capacity.

The only caveat to that is the strange clause saying they would negotiate a new employment agreement to begin shortly.

Yep. I’m interested to see what the new employment agreement will say.

Legit question: can you name one coach who has been fired as a head coach to go work as an assistant at that school?

What school in the next four years would accept their new head coach showing up at LSU's recruiting press release party on national signing day? Doesn't it say "events of LSU's choosing"?

That is my take on this.
No school will want a coach that is still dressing LSU and appearing for LSU. If he wanted to coach he would likely have to quit making these appearance thus giving LSU an out for paying any of the remainder owed to him. It also allows LSU to avoid an ugly public break up with a coach.

They should make him be in the mascot once a year, but not tell anyone. Not football, though. Something random like volleyball or golf. Make some kind of promotion like “find coach O and win tickets” to drive attendance to smaller sports.

That one's really easy to explain. It's for recruiting.

Their 2022 class is going to probably be bad, but by continuing his relationship with the university he can (at least in theory) go into a recruit's home and still try to sell LSU as a good place to be even though he won't be the coach.

Not going to help a lot, but it may save a couple of guys.

If Kiffin hires him, would Ole Miss @ LSU count?

I can absolutely see Kiffin hiring him.

Kiffin wouldn't care.

It would be cool if he appeared as in Ole Miss apparel as an assistant for Kiffin.
