How does he do it?
As a Mizzou fan you know the answer to this, but Pinkel will tell you straight up that its because he doesn't give a shite about national recruiting sites or star ratings by Rivals or Scout or what not. The Mizzou coaching staff uses its own internal evaluation system to size up players, sometimes that corresponds to what national recruiting analysts say, sometimes it doesn't. But Pinkel's staff looks for speed and athleticism and the ability to coach that raw material up, asking if the kid is a hard worker and such. That's how a 2 star recruit becomes SEC Defensive Player of the Year by time he's a senior at Mizzou.
If you look at how it played out with Mizzou's recruiting system this year it tells you they're doing fine in finding what they want. Tavon Ross and Nate Brown were Georgia kids that no other SEC program wanted when Mizzou offered, by time signing day came around UGA was slobbering all over them and so was Bama in Ross's case. Same deal with UF and the Florida kids we signed like Zanders and McWilliams. Because the Mizzou coaches don't zero in early on all the 4 star and 5 star "nationally" rated guys, they have more time to explore throughout the state and rural areas and evaluate every player they see evenly, then when they find the ones who have just as much athleticism and speed and potential but are not as well known yet, Mizzou swoops in and starts recruiting those kids early which gives them an edge later if/when the kid gets "discovered" nationally.

Seriously. It was a touchdown game in the 3rd quarter and they won by 14. How the hell was the game "never in question"

Tubbs doesn't have that track record in development of players.
Few in BCS conferences do.
Pinkel, on the surface, does have the track record until you examine the schedules closer
Tubbs has at least won his conference's championship.
That brutal schedule Mizzou has played throughout the years is the real reason for their "success."

We've won 10 games 4 times in the past 7 years. 8th in the nation in wins over that time period.
Perfect storm? Average at best?
For some reason the results don't jive with that conclusion

Dude, we ran nothing but dive plays on you guys and ran the last 8 minutes off the clock. We physically whipped your arse and there was nothing you could do about it.
Go watch the 4th quarter again if you can stomach it.

Last year? Probably win it.
LULz. Look I won't get into it with you on the competitiveness of our game with you last year, you're right it was still a game in the third quarter. But we did ultimately win by two touchdowns on your own homefield. And all we heard leading up to that week was how you were getting healthy again and were gonna stomp our arse and expose the weakness of the East and how we hadn't played anybody and now had to deal with the Big Boy football of the West. And you got beat by two TDs on your home field. It's over. Don't start gravitating back to the same mistake a lot of your fans made before the game. It was a good, fun game but we did pull away and cruise at the end. Our only other common opponent was Vandy, and you probably also noticed that while you eked out a wild crazy back and forth win in Nashville, we destroyed them there, not punting until the third quarter.

Not with 2*s he didn't, that I can recall.
Every staff will take a "reach" on a player from time to time, that is because any decent staff will do their own evaluations and "intangibles" may move a lower rated recruit ahead of one highly regarded by the websites.
The main thing is teams can't be built with 2*s, but for every 5* bust you have a 2*/NR player like Jamal Anderson or JJ Watt come along, law of averages and what not.

doesnt USCe have a similar record? and theyve only recently gained access to their own states prime athletes. SC is traditionally a UGA pool.

We played conservatively due to your offense being trash. Franklin only threw 19 passes, because 24 points was more than enough to beat you guys.

We did have cakewalks on the schedule in the form of playing the Ole Miss Rebels in Oxford in both of our recent 12 win seasons (2007 and 2013) so you may be on to something there. On the other hand, you are acknowledging that Ole Miss football sucks at defending its home turf from our charade of a program when you make that argument, so I'd tend to not want to go there if I were you.

Also, he has won most of his games in the gauntlet that is the Big XII North (Iowa State and Kansas are in that division) and the SEC East (Kentucky and Tennessee are in that division.
That's like questioning Bama's titles because Ole Miss and Mississippi State are in their division. No really, the parallels are right there.
In 2007 when Mizzou won 12 games, the kansas team in our division also won 12 games. How often have Ole Miss and MSU done that lately? Right.

So since Mizzou and OM dont play each other next year... i think. Mizzou should finish with a better record, and should have a clear advantage since OM plays in the HELL that is the SECW. Right?!

Nutt won the west in 2006 with mainly 3* and 2* talent on the roster, the difference is two other teams finished the season with 2 losses or less in the west.
He had Ole Miss doing well in the standings his first two years, then fell to the bottom.
The reason why is he didn't use what he had, he tried to find the next one, meaning the next "Darren McFadden", next "Felix Jones", next "Dexter McCluster", that led to 5 runningbacks signed each year hoping one would be the "next", but he did win a tough division and competed in in it more times than not.
What we've seen is when the East is "ok" not "great", Mizzou has a losing season, any Kentucky fan will tell you at least they have basketball to fall back on, what does Mizzou have?

LOL, here we go again with the time honored "East was down cuz Florida and Georgia had injuries oh noes!" but yet when Mizzou is one of the most injury ravaged teams in the nation in 2012, you don't acknowledge it and instead say Mizzou was down that year b/c we can't compete with the East. You realize how retarded that sounds right? Even our losing season in 2012 with just as many important injuries as Florida had this year was still better than UF's 4-8 bullshite this year.
Also, you're an Arky fan and this is a discussion of Big Boy football, teams that win division titles and 12 games and such. You need to wait awhile before returing the table for this conversation, if ever. Sorry.
