Also, they don't just rank these kids because they have nothing better to do.

Wait, do star ratings matter or not? I'm confused. Do they just matter when you get a highly rated commit? The rest will be coached to 4 and 5 stars?

You would not be confused if you read or would have quoted my entire post.

Yeh star ratings matter. Never said they didn't. What I mentioned was the 4* lineman we have now starting because of injury to that position would have to be considered slightly ahead of the learning curve of say a 3 or 2 star recruit. It's not set in stone though. It's also a situational thing depending on how complicated the offense is.

Hmm, so what you're saying is our guy's trial-by-fire out of necessity this season might pay big dividends for us in a year or two? That was really the only point I was trying to make on here.

Which is a bit irrelevant to the original discussion. The discussion is you'll likely struggle this year due to lack of depth and playing inexperienced guys at a key position on the field (even though he's talented). Rankings are less about readiness and more about potential. You keep wanting to bring up how it'll effect you in a year or two despite people saying they agree that the in-game experience will help him down the road. But as for this year, it's going to hurt you.

Of course, SEC fans will all later claim that Mizzou's injuries were due to the "wear and tear of the SEC schedule" and us "not being ready for the physicality" and so on....never mind that all our injuries are actually taking place in frickin' fall camp.

And now you're putting words in the mouths of SEC fans in a discussion that hasn't even happened yet to fit your argument. Did that admission to the SEC come with a crystal ball keychain?

The true freshman OL who is getting bumped into the starting lineup with these injuries is actually the kind of recruit you are saying we need in order to "catch up" - 4 star recruit, top 150 player in the nation who had offers from Auburn and Arkansas as well as other schools like Oklahoma, and was recruited by Bama and Tennessee as well.

Keywords in this entire thing is true freshman OL. He's going to get his fair share of abuse his first year if he truly is starting. You don't start freshmen on the line in this league, no matter how good they are coming out of high school.

I watched replay of bowl game Mizzou vs N Carolina and Mizzou was very impressive...especially on offense...although the Tarheels were gracious enough to committ turnovers like a Danish bakery.

Sorry about the injuries. OL & DL are prone to injuries in the SEC btw....big bodies fall hard and sometimes land on someones feet, legs and knees...even your own team mates.

Here's an update for those who care.
#1 Chris Freeman is back. I don't know if it was bad reporting or just a misunderstanding or they begged him to come back but he's back and shared reps at Offensive tackle with Michael Boddie and Anthony Gatti. Boddie is also a redshirt freshman, the other two are sophmores.

Redshirt freshman Taylor Chappell has a torn ACL.

Senior Guard Travis Ruth has a torn tricepts tendon.

They also said Pinkel had praised Boehm the 4* freshman for being physicaly ready to play and has earned alot of first team practice time at left guard.

It sounds to me like Boehm is on his way.An it seems they are figuring things out. Yost is a good coach He'll get the newbies ready to play.

Boehm's listed at 290lb. That's a pretty big FR. If he can get the blocking schemes he should be able to contribute and get some good experience.

Very sorry to hear this but I have to say we will probably need all the help we get. Here's hoping for a speedy recovery for both of this young men.

Boehm is at 300 pounds now. Boehm's weight was lower as he was a wrestler and had to be at 285 for the season. He is a player and a good overall athlete, State Champion Wrestler and 4 time medalist also State Champion Thrower in track. He is also a coaches kid and has a good head on his shoulders.

Yeah his dad is the head coach and they've made it to state most years since they've been around... although they are in a lower division (but I think they moved up again this year) since 2004 was the first year of the school

But he apparently is a good kid and the staff at West has prepared their guys well for college football.

I hate the school since they are my high school's cross town rivals but I think Boehm will be pretty well prepared if he does start.

BSSH here. You at LSNH or LSH? I believe LSWH is or was class 5-A. Were class 6-A. So if they are stepping up this year, thays pretty cool. That'll make for a more interesting year of football. LS produces some good players.

I'm anxious to get the HS season started to see wo we have now to step up.
