They will never be more than a schedule padding shite team for Florida and Georgia to slap around anyway.
Well, the schedule padding part isn't working out too well for Florida at least as Mizzou is 5-4 against the Gators all time and 4-4 since joining the SEC.
Incidentally, every time I've attended a Mizzou - LSU game, Mizzou won. In fact, I believe the all time series is even.

Mizzou seemed like an odd candidate for expansion initially, but I think they ended up being a nice addition, compared to other options. They're good folks.

Well, not all of them, but most.

Would realignment (Mizzou to the west) help?

Folks on this board who disparage Mizzou have either: never been there; are young kids; are just jonesing for fist bumps from other posters, bc they think it’s the dope thing to do; or are flat-out misinformed.
Visit before you judge.
The SEC is far better off with Mizzou as a member, rather than trying to chain itself to deep regional, geographic roots.
During expansion, the SEC pulling in Mizzou was a coup—maybe more so than accepting Texas A&M.
Conferences that have different types of members are superior.
Anyone who thinks Kentucky and LSU are twins is wrong.
Or Georgia and Arkansas.
Give the Tigers from Mizzou a chance.
In time, you’ll be glad you did.

If ESPN doesn't stop hemorrhaging money , Fox is going realign things by offering Mizzou, Colorado, OU and Okie State. Their Big 10 network is the biggest money maker and geographically they aren't locked in to a certain region.

Meh, would rather be in the Big 10. Much more prestigious conference and people with common sense, which doesn't seem so common in this hick conference.

Realignment killed our basketball program (although to be fair, Kim Anderson helped that a lot). Football doesn't have rivalries but there are lots of name teams Mizzou plays each year that folks care about because of the name on the front of their jersey, so attendance didn't completely crater (and wouldn't have at all outside of the protests). Basketball has one name program and then just a bunch of random teams to be honest, and the time zone differences mean nobody wants to go to Mizzou Arena at 8:00 on a Tuesday night in January to watch them play Alabama.
I think that the basketball program would have been on better footing in the Big 10 (if not record-wise than attendance-wise), and I think the Big 10 is enough easier that the football program would be better off too. I have no doubt that Mizzou wins The Big 10 in 2013, so they'd have that to hang their hat on at least.
I won't even talk about baseball. What a trainwreck...they actually have a pretty decent program but will never gain any traction in the SEC because of the money spent by everyone else.
Culturally Columbia is a midwestern town. The whole state isn't though, basically anything South of St. Louis gets more and more Southern, and the bootheel is definitely more like Mississippi than Illinois or Iowa.
All that being said, Mizzou's not switching conferences again, so hopefully time will crank up the rivalries to the point where we don't feel like quite the outsiders, but Mizzou will always kind of be the weird guys.

The Big 10 did NOT pass on Mizzou.
We wouldn't accept the junior membership -- that's where you're not a full member of the conference and don't receive an equal payout for 5 years.
The nibblets of Nowledge University saw this as a golden opportunity to leave the Big 12 and took it.
Mizzou was smart enough to wait for the SEC to come calling. And, by the way, our TV sets helped pull in the conference's record breaking deals. So frick y'all.

I would have preferred the B1G if they gave us full membership, but they didn't, and the SEC did so it's SEC baby!

Obviously. They'll probably ask us if we watched them play. People will still be talking about 2019 LSU for decades to come. They wont have to hear it from us. But they'll ask us about it and we'll pull out our playoff tickets and pictures to relive something that you will never even get to live once.

I don't get it. You guys won the Big 12 regular season in 2007, had a #1 ranking, screwed the pooch against OU in the Big XII championship, and since then it's been sortof on a downhill slide at cruise control. Why not go back to the Big XII? Texas ain't shite anymore.

Agreed. Any objective Mizzou fan would probably agree with this. We are Midwestern, a Midwestern conference would fit better.
