It comes down to taking care of business with the schedule you play. Mizzou did that.
In 1976, Mizzou won ON THE ROAD at three top ten ranked teams - at #8 Southern Cal, at #2 Ohio State, at #3 Nebraska. But know what? It dicked around with the mediocre opponents on its schedule and finished 6-5, so it was not deserving of being a championship team.
You wanna bitch about LSU's lot in life relative to Mizzou, because wah wah wah we beat a Top 20 BCS team we should be better wah wah? Then don't fricking lose to Ole Miss. We didn't, we took care of business. South Carolina wants to bitch? Don't fricking lose to Tennessee.
Give me the team that handles its business all year against the teams it should beat, and whose only losses are crazy thrillers against fellow top ten teams, ANY day over the Jekyle and Hyde teams that sometimes play to their potential and sometimes get shellacked by Ole Miss.

both auburn and Mizzou have the highest ranked strength of schedule and the most victories against top 50 teams than any of the other top 6 teams in bcs rankings... the winner of this game should be in the title game..

I think the SEC Champion that was almost incapable of crossing the 50 yard line against a team not even capable of winning its division, and the only SEC Champ to ever lose the BCS National Title game is probably the most overrated SEC Champion. But that's just using facts and results, not biased polls.

Bad Stiggy, Bad. Mizzou has earned their spot as East champs just like Auburn in the west. Both of those teams have been playing at a high level all year long.
