Ummmm… yeah I’m gonna have to call in the bullshite detector on this one. We have a new coach with a new scheme and playing in arguably the toughest division in college football.
State fans know this could be a successful start by going to another bowl (6-8 wins) or things could also turn sour and we get our shite pushed in every week from too much change too quick.
I mean could we upset a team or two? Sure why not… it’s the fricking SEC. But we could do that and still get 2nd to last in the division. Lots of questions for a lot of teams this year so it should be fun.

I think I’ve seen more State fan predictions in this thread than anywhere else this off-season. And that’s just a few. Mostly it’s been a wait and see fanbase in a wait and see season.

Absolutely can be 8-4, but will not at all contend for the West.
I'm one of those who has been defending State against the last in the West picks.
State's defense will essentially be the same. New DC was under Arnett who is now head coach. Only the offense will be new.
Arkansas has a new OC and DC.
Auburn has a new HC, OC, and DC.
UK has a new OC.
A&M has a new OC.
USC has a new OC.
OM has a new DC.
Bama has a new DC.
On our schedule, only LSU has the same OC and DC as last year.
State has as many returning starters as anyone. More returning starters and fewer portal signees.
Any team that signed a lot from the portal lost a lot to the portal. And every incoming portal player has to learn new schemes--every coach is a new coach to a portal player.
State won 9 games last year, and is as stable as anyone on our schedule other than LSU.

No delusion from any State fan that I know.
99.9% understand our situation.
Summed up like this:
We lost a legend of a coach. We are replacing him with a young, bright but unproven (as a HC). We have some talent but it is understandable that we are being picked last in the W. If we win 6+ games, then we will be pleased. Early recruiting seems to be going better expected.
All that said, I am looking forward to the season and we will see how we stack up. I will enjoy the wins and not jump off a bridge if things go sideways during the season.

State fans trashed Leach unmercifully, they think they have upgraded on offense with sunbelt Barbay 
dumbest fan base in the sec. read their delusional trash on genes or elite dawgs. they wanted Leach fired last year while he was going 9-4 claiming their defense won every game.

Last season State's offense was #8 in the SEC. State's defense was #5 in the SEC.

You aren't just bringing in a new OC. You're transitioning to an entirely different offense with players recruited for the Air Raid. I think that is the reason for the lack of optimism in the media.
