Any idea if Billy Puckett (God bless him) is legitimately the best we have as a backup? Isn’t one of those other backups kind of a bigger guy that can run the ball a little? If we’re paying them, wouldn’t it make sense to trot them out there and at least threaten a QB run?

AJ Swann was supposed to be the backup but I think he’s been hurt the entire time he’s been at State and is behind where they expected him to be.

The only other options would be Rashada who is absolutely terrible and McWhirter who is a true freshman that most people don’t think is talented enough to ever contribute much in the SEC.

Whatever the plan was at backup QB, they definitely whiffed in some capacity. Can’t imagine Puckett was the planned backup all along.

What’s the injury and how long is he out? Didn’t know that was a thing until Sat morning.

Supposedly turf toe. No frikin clue. All I know is we have the worst luck of pretty much every team about continuous years of key players getting nagging injuries and tanking the season. It never ends.

I'm hearing less optimistic things than State fans. The rumor I heard was he had surgery in the bye week and is likely not back until early-mid November. Jeff Lebby said "It's going to be day to day, he's got a lot of work to do, we'll see where he ends up." in his presser today. He sounded like someone who had just put his dog down when he said it. Nothing about that seems optimistic

Probably. I want to be hopeful he returns and we can beat OU, AU vandy and our remaining rent a win for 8 wins and a shot at 9 in the egg bowl.

But here is reality because we are MSU. He will be out. Fluff comes back in time to squeak by vandy and our rent a win to get to 6 wins. Then KT returns for egg bowl, beats Ole Miss because you’re ole Miss and your luck is as bad as ours. Go 7-5 Lebby keeps his job state fans get excited for next year. Then KT enters portal we go 4-8 next year Lebby is fired

I'm not sure the OU defense is the best thing for him to get healthy. I doubt John Mateer can put 2 touchdowns on the board so I'd roll the dice with the backup if I were Lebby.

A "dice roll" implies at least some chance success.

Billy played hard and I respect it, but a conference win with him on the field is just not happening, and the players know it, too.

You could tell we were beat last Saturday before we even got of the bus.

Turf toe can be brutal, especially if you're an athlete where footwork and an ability to properly anchor and then shift weight over the span of the foot is critical.

I had that once; I've never been an athlete but it hurt like hell to just walk on it for weeks. I can't imagine being a top-level QB like Taylor and not being able to properly use your feet to run or set up throws.

Hopefully he gets better, though. He's a great player and I wish he'd been healthy for the game at Tiger Stadium.

He should sit out and get healthy for when he signs that 10 million NIL contract with Miami.

There is no doubt this will happen.

I can't see it happening. Taylor and his family are cowbell-ringing homers of the highest order. And none other than Chris Jones has started an NIL group of MSU alums to keep him at State.

I know you were poking fun, but in reality I'd be mighty surprised if he even listened to any other offers.
