He said a run, I think his assessment is realistic. Leach has been in contention late in the season for a conference championship at WSU and TT. I don't think it's far fetched after seeing Dan get close in 2014.

You do realize mike leach has coached in the SEC before?
Yep...Tim Couch had exactly 1,100 passing attempts in the '97 and '98 seasons at Kentucky...(and over 8,500 passing yards). It seemed to work pretty well against SEC defenses back then.

And that is where the record gets tricky. Mike Leach has never won or even played for a conference title in all his years of coaching.
Another dumb comment made out of ignorance

How so . . .most A&M fans have known the guy for decades and watched him up close year after year.
And what I said is just a fact.
So why you so triggered, bro?

Might be the first . . . . .he could be the next Graham Harrell as well. Certainly he has the pedigree.

The next offensive coordinator at USC? What do you mean?
Posted on 9/29/20 at 10:54 am to JackTraven
Chris Peterson is an excellent game manager. I wanted him years ago.
The only thing that kept him from succeeding even more is Washington didn't give enough support needed to win big on a consistent level. Which I believe led to burn out.

I mean a guy who put up lots of system QB numbers only to go undrafted. He got Tech to the Cotton Bowl rather than the Alamo Bowl but that was about it.
Most other Leach QBs were well-know spares. Harrell was actually a hyped recruit and most saw the Leach Harrell combo as portending greater things.

Let me count the ways....
1- Tech is not in the SEC.
2- Tech has never recruited at the level of the MSU
3- Tech was never a recruiting machine in the conference. It's like comparing Vandy to Bama.
4- If MSU can beat TAMU under Moorhead....
5- Tech has never had a defense like MSU. In fact, none of Leach's teams ever had a defense like MSU in MSU's worst years.
2018/19 MSU had the #1 defense in the nation playing in the SEC!
If you don't grasp that... it's no longer ignorance, it moves into stupidity.

i wonder if he thinks 7-5 million is a better coach

It worked at Kentucky too.
No, it did not.
Made the losses easier to watch
UK had Tim Couch
1997 5-6 (Beat 4-7 Mike Dubose Alabama and CUSA Louisville)
1998 7-5 (Beat 4-7 Gerry Dinardo LSU and CUSA Louisville)
1999 6-6 (Beat 0-11 Cocks and 3-8 Gerry Dinardo LSU)
2000 2-9 (went 0-8 in conference)
2001 2-9 (Guy Morris and 1 SEC win vs Vanderbilt)
2002 7-5 (beat Hogs, State, and Dores in conference)
2003 PawPaw takes over at UK and UK goes to 4 straight bowls in PawPaw's last 4 seasons before he retires.

It didnt work in 97 so it won’t work in 2020. GTFO

He managed wins over two ranked teams (a #20 Alabama that ended up 4-7 and #21 LSU team that also ended up 4-7) over those two years.
He was good against bad teams. Good teams typically shut down his offenses, and the style of offense lent nothing to helping the defense (Kentucky gave up over 50 points 5 times over those two years, which is a lot for the 90s.)

Oh, you could have went with Anthony Gordon for that one then.
Harrell seems to be doing very well for himself right now, as is Kliff Kingsbury. B.J. Symons is probably the worst off of Leach's Tech QBs, but he's still a multi-millionaire investment banker.

you are talking about what happened 20 years ago when Tennessee ran the conference. A lot has fricking changed.

You are setting yourself up for a major melt in the future

Moo States is marginally better in the recruiting game but that is not something the program should hang its hat on. The best classes you have ever had in recent history barely crack the Top 20 rankings.
And the SEC fact probably negates that slight edge. What defenses would Leach rather face?
Posted on 9/29/20 at 11:10 am to rockiee
I have already said he has exceeded my expectations this year. I won’t melt at 5-5. Our qb joined and july and we just beat the defending champs without a spring. Leach will be the best coach State has ever had.
