He was 69.
His last game was the Liberty Bowl on December 29, 1982. He died on January 26, 1983.

Did Joe Paterno die after or during his last season?

I couldn’t imagine having to make the decision facing his family.
This is why an advanced directive is so important. Put in writing what kind of care you want in advance so your family doesn’t have to make the decision for you.

Also waiting for everyone to be present and have time to have closure.

I'm not going to read all 66 pages, so a Sooner fan may have already posted this: I was a student at OU in 1999 when Stoops, brought Coach Leach in to run the offense. Brough out the Ninja among other insane formations and ideas. Change the Big 12 and college FB forever.
He is one of a kind and I hope he pull through this.
If you haven't heard of the fake play sheet ploy they did for OU Texas that year, it is worth the read.
Prayers up for coach.

61 is so young in the grand scheme of things. Keep swinging your sword, coach. Praying for a miracle and that you’re living it up in Key West a year from now.

Absolute truth and it’s a subject too many people don’t want to think about.
Got it set up with my Mrs. and her with me very early in our marriage and the kids who came along later have their written instructions on what to do if it falls to them. Neither of us wants to be a vegetable kept alive by machines in suspended animation between life and death, hoping for a miracle. If that’s what we’re facing, it’s time to go.

I’m 53. I do everything I can to stay healthy but that guarantees nothing.
So many prayers for his family and friends.

This. I encourage everyone to do what I do and go to a doctor at least once a year and get a basic checkup. Get blood drawn and have it sent to the lab and analyzed even if you feel perfectly healthy. There are signs in your blood that can point to potential problems before uou experience any symptoms. You could have high cholesterol and not know it, but finding out early before it does permanent damage will save your life as you can start medication and make dietary changes
I would add that a simple added panel to your annual physical can find the hidden heart issue but insurance does not pay for it. Talk to your doctor as I can not remember the added test (they are drawing the blood already) but if it costs you 5 or 10 bucks a year, well worth it.
Also, when lung is diagnosed, the treatment is steroids and antibiotics. If it is actually heart this is the worst treatment. Steroids will cover fluid on the heart and can spike your blood sugar. Making the heart strain worse. Doctors are not infallible so communicate with them as it is your life.

Had a dear friend had a massive heart attack (cause was blockage, not damage to heart muscle) and they brought them back after about 45 mins. Apparently they drew the luck card in a city with a top heart shop in a region. Apparently the big issue was a new thing to cool the dead body. Literally came back from the dead and was better after about 6 months than they were before the attack. Far as I can tell, they had no brain damage after being dead that long. Difference may be the lack of similar staff and facilities at most hospitals in the USA.
That’s amazing. I know Leachs family may have tough decisions to man but I’m sure he has great insurance and obviously plenty of money so I hope they get him the best possible care and exhaust all options before making the final call. Miracles do occur. I feel you should wait on pulling the plug a reasonable amount of time to make sure, but also don’t drag it out too long. I’ve always said if you can afford it then give the patient at least a couple weeks to fight

Well said, and might I add the thread is not about themselves, their grandmothers, grandfathers, dads, wives or anyone else but Coach Leach.

Keep at it bro. It isn't just about longevity, but quality of life can be improved.
My father had a double bypass and a valve replacement last month. Being nearly 80, and walking daily since he retired to stay active, he is doing fairly well in his recovery. Lost a lot of endurance, but he's keeping at his recovery therapy and should be back to normal in a couple more months.

Heart disease affects almost everyone in America. But generally I agree with the Anthony Jeselnik joke about don’t forget about me today.
