There is a voice-mail from Gloria Scott to LSU where she says that Cleavon Williams and her grandson will be the two people contacting LSU on her behalf. Then Williams sends a text message to Miriam Seger claiming that the grandson has told him that the family is asking LSU to pay them $100,000 for her mental anguish.

This is Matt Moscona's show and he is laying it all out there very well with copies of the audio and text messages. They will upload the whole segment in the next hour or so I would imagine.

That doesn't really damage her credibility. The OR matters.

I have no doubt he was working with the family to come up with this scheme from what I have heard so far. I think she's being pushed along by him and other family scheming.

Im 11 minutes in. This dude just talks and talks...

Jesus, inner city AAU coaches are becoming "handlers" for elderly security guards now?

Orgeron has until tomorrow to respond to the formal request for him to testify at the senate hearing. It sounds like he is expected to release a letter detailing his response and deny the request to testify. The senate committee does have the power to subpoena.

I've listened to all of it, and it's 100% a shakedown. Williams calls himself a "liaison" who does "consulting work" and mentions "knowing the business prices." He also adds that "he's alone" in this, as if Scott (the older lady) really had no idea what he was doing. He says he wanted to "handle it on the lowest level possible." Adds that they supposedly have a video, but he hasn't seen it.

Segar seems pretty incredulous about what he's asking, but when Williams confirms that he's an AAU coach, Verge adds that "we have a lot of friends that we know at Nike." He follows it up by saying, "You're in the AAU world - what's the number?" Maybe the only parts that weren't great looks from the LSU end, but it otherwise sounds pretty clear that Williams is just in it for the cash.

Verge was just setting the dude up to name his bribe price on the record. Segar was on same call and flat out said LSU isn’t paying you anything.

Well we have proof on multiple fronts that this is a lie.

The idea being floated on Tiger Rant is that Verge was trying to get Williams to admit to a number by talking his language. It's obvious that Williams didn't want to be recorded giving a number so maybe that's plausible.

That's absolutely right, he was just trying to get a number for even more extortion evidence.

In a phone call to LSU that month — which LSU officials recorded — Williams told Segar and LSU Executive Deputy Athletic Director Verge Ausberry that Scott was preparing to go to media outlets with her story unless LSU agreed to either keep Guice out of the Citrus Bowl, or pay up.

Well, this explains why the HB report mentions a representative of Mrs. Scott.

So LSU has an actual recording? There was some speculation earlier about whether it was legal to record your own phone calls as Daddy Dale was known to do. Per Google (which is never wrong), in most states (including Louisiana) it is in fact legal to record your own phone calls though it is wise to inform the other party you are doing so.

Another attorney tweeted out the following:
quote:

Scott Sternberg
@ScottLSternberg
For the record, I spoke to Ms. Scott before her story became public (she is not my Client), and she told me numerous times she didn't want money and didn't want anything other than some kind of justice.

I, for one, believe her.

#lalege #lagov

Whether she authorized what he did or not, clearly she talked to the AAU coach and got him involved. And he muddied things up so bad that the truth doesn't really matter any more.

She looks bad for leaving all of this out of her testimony.

Those are my immediate thoughts anyway. Just became aware of today's update to the story and haven't thoroughly reviewed it.

Yikes.

You can say that again. Last thing LSU needs is anything more that makes the NCAA go "O RLY?"

Yeah, I don’t think Verge was actually intent on complying with Williams’ demands, but he certainly knows the language and is attempting to imply a familiarity with the process, which could be seen negatively.
