Gus did not mention the defense because he does not run the defense. Gus is not the kind of guy to criticize another coach in the media. I am sure he brought it up behind closed doors.

Of course other teams fans are not going to like Gus he wins a lot and even in defeat he gives other teams fits.

Nobody besides Bama fans like Saban, everyone loved Shula.

Auburn fans won't want to hear this, but Malzahn and Bobby Petrino are basically the same coach.

With the same morals. Someone needs to investigate the rumor that when Bobby wrecked his motorcycle that it was actually St. Gus the Pius on the bike with Bobby, not Jessica Dorrell.

Ignore the bad shite. Keep the spotlight on the positive and your bread and butter. Keep ignoring anything embarrassing or possibly difficult.

More like cult logic.

I completely agree. Offensive guy or not, you're the head guy...not even trying on D is a problem.

It is comical that Arkansas fans spend so much time obsessing over an Auburn coach. I know there are a few Auburn morons on this board who play into the obsession, but I don't know a single Auburn fan in real life who gives a shite about Arkansas

As I posted last night, Gus is an OC as the head coach.
A head coach has to be over ALL areas of the team, more or less equally. Sure, HCs come up through the ranks on either the offense or defense side, but the truly successful HCs learn to manage each portion of the team equally.
Gus is really good as an offensive mind, but he cannot just leave his defense out there on their own.

Who even talks to the defense on the sideline during games?

Do you even watch college football? I am not sure that guys like Spurrier, Miles, and Richt get involved with defense any more than Malzahn does

I agree. I dont know Gus, but completely ignoring the defense in a post game presser seems arrogant to me. He obviously only wanted to talk about how close the O was to making it a blowout (his strength) and completely ignore that his D stayed in zone far too often in the 2nd half.

An offensive mind should be able to see that just as easily as a defensive mind. Is it not the head coaches job to ring up the d coord and make a change?

I think Gus is a helluva coach ....this Def- coordinator hire is going to make or break him. If he can get someone competent.Someone that compliments how he runs his offense. He will be a force if not or if he keeps Ellis the tigers are in trouble.

I found it odd that he refused to discuss the defense.....I think he really believes if they could just put enough points, then that was all it would take.....

Good question. Ellis and cheese are in the box which means Gardner and Melvin on the field, I suppose.

Even with a good DC. Malzone's offense produces a 'all we need is one stop mentality.' Sometimes that one stop never comes.
I believe also his 'O" lives or dies by his QB's. All you have to do is look at 2009, 2011 and compare them to 2010, 2012 and 2013. A misjudge at QB his offenses are impotent.

I see nothing wrong with his PC. He was disappointed they lost a winnable game. Nothing more, nothing less imo.

What do you want him to say about the D? There wasn't much to say He could have stated the obvious "The defense struggled." You guys read into this stuff a bit too much.

Edit: Not aimed at you of course gator
