It's amazing watching people try to play GM on here...well he needs playmakers and an offensive scheme. No chit....

Not going to compare him to any top tier QB.

I'm guessing that young QB would struggle with scrubs around him.

Look what Brady has

Look what Maholmes has

Look what DeSean didn't have

Look what Cam didn't have

Look what Matt Ryan has

Look what Sam Darnold didn't have

Look what Burrow didn't have

It's up any GM to surround a QB with playmakers.

Watched fricking AARON Rodgers struggle for a few years because he didn't have playmakers.

Top 3 drafted QB teams are projected to pick a Wr in this draft.

By the way, Tom Brady wasn't known for great arm strength...another similarity
I guess that also means to you that I said/think that Jones is going to be as good as Brady.

This is twice now you have compared Mac to Brady. It's not me making that claim. It's you.

I left it off because it didn't pertain to his arm strength that you questioned.

It absolutely brings into question his arm. It is 100% totally about his lack of arm strength. They don't say those things about guys with strong arms.

ETA The gist is........he is a game manager that needs superior talent around him to succeed.

ETA to the ETA ......and that is from something you posted trying to negate what I have been saying. You just left out the the part that proves my point.
1) Again, I DIDN'T say that he was gonna be as good as Brady..read it!
2) READ the first sentence of the report I posted! It states that he has average arm strength, then goes on to explain how he excels with his passing
3) This entire exchange between us has been in regard to arm strength. I didn't leave off ANYTHING that pertained to our topic of arm strength.
4) I hope you DO save this thread and will be man enough to come back in a few years to talk about BOTH Jones and Tua. We'll probably have another QB in line for a Heisman by then and we can discuss his shortcomings, too.

Yet he set a plethora of rookie QB records.

so media members are now "experts"? You do realize these are media members "mock drafts", right?

The 49ers are seriously considering taking Mac Jones at #3. Also...how many "mock drafts" had AJ McCarron going in the first round of the 2014 NFL Draft?

A clipboard holder who is making $4 million a year to stand on the sidelines. I'd love to have that job.

Also...I couldn't care less if the kid succeeds or not in the NFL. If he does...awesome; if he doesn't...oh well. The only reason why I want him to go in the first round is because it helps recruiting at the position.

Shane Matthews had a 14 year career in the NFL primarily as a backup. Raked in the cash and didn't take a beating, I'd like a gig like that too.

Again, you take this as an attack on Bama. It is a statement of how weak the NFL draft is at QB. You have Lawrence and the rest, remember the second best QB was beaten out by Fromm. To pick any of them in the first round is a wasted pick.

Most pro ready qb Saban has had at Bama. Also, the best qb Saban has had, a notch above mccarron.

We can argue the various merits of Trevor Lawrence, Zach Wilson, and Mac Jones, but I really don't get all the love for Justin Fields.

Just from the perspective of a fan, that dude has never stood out to me.

So your logic is that unless a college player starts his freshman season he isnt worthy of a first round pick?

.

No, just more than one year , especially in a Covid Year. Cam had one year but he was drafted due to his athleticism, Burrow had a great year, but he didn’t suck the year before in a different system. Jones had the luxury of the WRs and a good OL and Covid . Ask what other QBs could have done as well under those circumstances.

Are people really writing Tua off after one year? Lol look at he and Burrows qbr last year with similar lines and weapons.

Both will be fine

I think Jones will be a lot better than many here think, but then again it comes down to the situation. I've said it before and will say it again, most of the top drafted QB's are doomed to failure because of where they are going.

Burrow, good QB - Bengals, screwed
Wilson, good QB - likely Jets, screwed
Lawrence, good QB - Jacksonville, meh
Jones, good QB - likely SF, might be okay
Tua, good QB - Dolphins, meh

Situation matters as much as the QB does

Comparing it to previous years. That is why I think this years draft at QB a big risk. Still waiting on the NCAA to release the by game number of players that missed games and practice due to Covid protocol.

Unfortunately, you're 100% correct.

At the time it was easy for fans to get bent out of shape over John Elway and Eli Manning, for example, but really it's hard to blame those types of guys for holding out.
