We really haven't recruited that well on the defensive side of the ball, especially at DB and DL. At least not as well as we used to. Inability to pressure the QB with a weak secondary is a recipe for disaster. Ultimately, whether our issues are recruiting, development, scheme, or a combination, the blame falls on the coach.

Last year was a slight improvement but agreed the defense needs to be a lot better. You won't get any arguments from LSU fans on that one

Yep. BK arrived and stupidly thought he needed to clean house. He hired who he wanted and it was a colossal failure. Then he hired some of the guys back that he let go. His leadership has been questioned and rightfully so. No LSU fan can honestly say, it's not BK's fault and not be wrong.

The best corner we've had in the last 4 or 5 years is a marginal talent in the NFL, our safeties have been trash, our defensive line has been poor, we've had 8 coaches at the interior since 2019, and our best linebacker is a white guy.

This 100%.
Also, it’s not unfair to Kelly if an LSU fan speculates that with even a top 30-40 defense in 2023, they win a Natty with Jayden & Co.
This team will be his best shot since 2023 if Nussmeier stays healthy. Maybe his best team yet. If LSU doesn’t threaten late or make the playoff, Kelly isn’t the answer. He’s old as it is and he certainly doesn’t fire me up the way a Saban, Smart or even coach O do.
All that AND the defensive recruiting has been mid as fukc yet everyone thinks because we finished 7th or 8th that we’re stacked on defense. Maybe this year, sure…but not the last couple.
