1st play: LSU was in cover 3
2nd play: LSU was in cover 2, but played man on Bama's top WR and slot receiver, the other half of the field was zone
3rd play: LSU finally blitzes off zone (looks to be cover 2)

None of these plays were what you call prevent defense. And every reception was to the same receiver and he was covered...there was an LSU player within 3 yards of him on every catch.

4th play: LSU played cover 2 man under
5th play: LSU is panicking and calls an all out blitz....YELDON TD

Bottom line...McCarron worked LSU defense that drive.

It was soft coverage, prevent would be misleading but it was most definitely a huge change from the tight man coverage from earlier when we shut Bama down.

It's not literally prevent defense. Just very conservative compared to what we ran the entire second half. We did the same thing in the SC game and the A&M game and gave up easy scores then too. It is something that must be fixed.

Bottom line......LSU corners were playing 10+ yards off the LOS to prevent the big play and McCarron took the 10-15 yard completions as he should have.

deep zones were very deep, but the coverage on the catches was tight.

Prevent isn't the right word to use. It was soft coverage, LSU was giving the Bama WRs a 10 yard cushion.

We did the exact same thing against A&M and South Carolina. And they also both scored TDs in the last minute. Shitty fricking scheme to do the opposite of what was working all game.

Prevent / playing 10 yards off same thing. I understand why u feel insecure about the win tho.

LSU has actually been pretty good on third down this year. It should be called "Late in the 4th quarter playing with a lead and Chavis."

Go look at the threads from yesterday....everyone was blaming Chavis for calling prevent defense, except he didn't call prevent defense AND every single reception on THE DRIVE was tight coverage

On I think the 3rd play where McCarron threw the 15-20 yard sideline route Collins was literally 10 yards down the field when the receiver caught the ball. That was the play when Danielson made the comment about LSU playing a very soft coverage.

LSFans are correct that was soft coverage, AJ finally woke up and made the correct decisions. We called the perfect play for that blitz finally because our play calling to tht point was not good IMO.
