per Brett McMurphy:

quote:

How bad did LSU want Texas A&M’s Jimbo Fisher? In late November, LSU was prepared to offer Fisher an 8-year, $125 million deal - $13 million/year - to come to LSU, sources told @ActionNetworkHQ.

Jimbo Fisher would never turn down a serious offer from LSU. Report is BS.

Sources say the deal fell through once Jimbo learned of LSU's expectations, leading him to stay at Texass 8 & 4.

And the remaining $21 mill?

They didn't want a bidding war with A&M, plain and simple.

One reader said Kelly was the backup plan. That is not so. Riley was the backup plan but he too turned it down.

We aren't talking about Bama or Houston in this thread.

Don't you have ban bets to honor?

It's probably real. Woodward is the same guy that paid $75M guaranteed for an 8-4 coach. He loves him some Jimbo.

Just like you try to convince people you got your undergraduate degree from Texass 8 & 4

As long as its clear that Woody didn't get his top dog, that is all I can ask for.

Woody now can blame BK as "not being my top choice" if he doesn't succeed OR say that BK was clearly his "best choice" if he has success.

Bottom line is that Woody doesn't really do much than just throw a bunch of money at established people. He doesn't dig diamonds in the rough, he gives himself multiple outs and just seems like a squirrely bastard all around.

Still happy we didn't get Jimbo and I'm warming up to BK more and more.

Glad he said no. Jimbo is so overrated. Most LSU fans I know didn't want him.

It may have been another Greg Schiano situation.

Woodward for sure called him and kicked the tires, but no offer was made.

Jumbo to Scott: “I’d be a dummy to go to LSU where they expect championships. These fools here are paying me top dollar and all I have to do is show up.”

And it ended there.

You are right about Woodward. Spends enormous bank for low risk types with limited upside.
