Pulled some stats from Bama's encounters with OU over the last few seasons.

Bama gave up 45 points and 430 yards in 2014.
Bama gave up 34 points and 470 yards in 2018.

LSU gave up 38 points and 530 yard on Saturday. Not a HUGE difference between LSU's game Saturday and Bama's last year against OU.

Bama's game in 2014 was the last of the season so we could probably leave it out for the purpose of this discussion. After the game last year against OU, were people concerned about Bama's defense going into the Clemson game? I know for 1, i was not. Turns out maybe we should have been.

I ask this question because posters keep saying LSU now "has a big 12 defense". I know its mostly trolls, but the defensive performance definitely left much to be desired. Bama's defense last season was one of the best defenses I have ever seen, yet the OU offense still got theirs. Are the offenses that Texas and OU run, along with a top tier QB and Skill position players, can we agree that these teams are just going to get the production no matter who they defense? Seems defensive Coordinators choose to keep everything in front, in order not to give up the big play.

I am not ready to admit LSU has a "Big 12 defense". I think what Texas did on Saturday, on their home field, with college gameday there, they would have done that to any team in the country. What are y'alls thoughts?

Is LSU in trouble? Was Saturdays game comparable to Bama and OU last year and its a little early to worry? Here's to legitimate conversation if that's possible on this board.

If LSU's defense is Alabama 2013 level you guys are fricked (they aren't, FYI).

That Alabama team had something like 3 NFL players playing every down on it, most of them young. It was not a good defense (by Alabama standards) and it was an even worse secondary. It was the least talented defense of the Saban era outside of 2007 IMHO.

DL - Ed Stinson
DT - Brandon Ivory
DE - Jeoffrey Pagan

OLB - Xzavier Dickson
ILB - CJ Mosley
ILB - Trey DePriest
OLB - Adrian Hubbard

CB - Deion Belue
CB - Geno Smith
CB - John Fulton
CB - Bradley Sylve

FS - Vinnie Sunseri
SS - HaHa Clinton Dix

Unsure. That Texas offense wasn’t very good last year. Have they suddenly become elite like ou 2018?

The best defense in CFB history gave up 460 yards passing to West Virginia early in the 2011 season.

We have a string of cupcakes to iron out the kinks. No reason to worry unless it happens again.

Mentioned earlier- you had a single match up problem in the slot (UT #6) which was exploited often. Tackle #6 and the game looks different.

And the way the game was officiated- evenly as far as allowing holds- but unequal in outcome as LSU depends on havoc plays from the front 4.

LSU's D will be fine in conference play, imo.

Texas has a better O line than any team ive seen LSU play in years.

Years.

Our D line is no joke. The holding was atrocious but still stands.

Always goes back to Bama for you insecure clowns. You will lose to Bama again in November this year, but by all means build yourselves up or another massive let down.

Since we are using a Bama game from last year for this insecure comparison, it would be more honest to compare the Bama/LSU shutout from last year.

Poor, pitiful #InsecureLSU

The best defense in CFB history didn't play West Virginia in 2011.

OU had the #1 scoring offense in 2018
Texas was #45

OU had the #7 passing offense
Texas had the #35 passing offense

OU was #1 in total offense
Texas was #58

Texas is still only #32 in the country this year.
LSU gave up more YPP and more yards overall than LA Tech

Alabama held Oklahoma to their lowest YPP for all season, and second lowest points and yards (thanks to Army holding onto the ball for over 44 minutes).

LSU already cannot have held Texas to their lowest YPP. LA Tech already did a better job of that.

I'm not being snarky by asking this-I am genuinely curious...but was LSU's Dline dominant last year? were they supposed to be dominant this year? I just don't recall hearing a lot of hype around LSU's dline unit in recent times.

Wow. I am shocked I only remember like 3 or 4 names off the defense.

It was a culmination of recruiting misses and the last of the big, slow defenses we had.

The Front 7, outside of CJ and a freshman A'Shawn, was just plain bad. Zero pass rush, zero pass coverage ability. And, behind that were no SEC level corners.

It's a miracle we got to that Auburn game 11-0, honestly.

Good Lord dude. lol R-E-L-A-X. I'm simply asking if LSU's encounter with UT over the weekend was similar to Bama's encounter with OU. Has nothing to do with being insecure. Were you worried about Bama's D after that game, or did you go into it knowing OU would put up some points and get their yardage... Chill out lol

First half was LSU’s defense (7 points).

Tough matchup + 100 degree heat had both teams completely gassed!
