LSU fans ladies and gentlemen. Before you know it this Texas team will be built up as the best Big 12 defense/offense combo in history

Statistically, last years Bama's D was worst than all those years you just named? genuine question. I though Bama's D was pretty damn elite last season. Bama typically always has an elite D for the most part (SummerofGeorge pointed out a rare occasion)

Were you worried about Bama's D after that game, or did you go into it knowing OU would put up some points and get their yardage... Chill out lol

I think we all expected Oklahoma to get points. They were one of the greatest offenses in CFB history at that point, had great receivers, a great o-line and the Heisman trophy winner at QB along with a great play caller. I think we knew that we SHOULD have more success against them than anyone they'd faced (we did), but we also knew that our defense was pretty good but not all-time good.

We also got to a point in that game where we were up 3 scores and out goal was clearly to make Oklahoma go down the field and eat clock instead of taking chances and risking let them hit chunk plays and scoring quick.

Honestly, I left that game pissed off at how bad the defense was the 2nd half after they played really well for 1.5 quarters, but overall I was just happy to get past it.

the game was never really in question, put 60 total yards and 4 points isn't that big of a difference, yes? Point is, i think these offenses will put up numbers no matter who they play.

OU last year almost has to have an asterisk. Sacking Kyler Murray or even pressuring that dude is a tall order for almost anyone. It's like trying to catch a waterbug and he made it pretty tough on our DB's the way he extended plays.

Had we been playing Texas we'd have killed them.

4 points

You misspelled eleven.

ETA: ah, you are saying the 4 point difference in margin of victory between 2 different games from 2 different seasons from 4 different teams

Damn at the spin you are trying to put on two games by totally different teams.

Best comparison is the LSU Bama game from last year. Most of the same players and HC’s

Saban has talked before about one of the biggest reasons for his adjustment and acceptance of a more open offense was the fact that, in this modern age, you are going to get into games where the flow of the games gets away from you and you just kind of have to be able to go blow for blow, score for score. It happened to us with A&M in 2013, Clemson in 2015 and Ole Miss in 2016.

Sometimes you just get in one of those games and you hold on for dear life and trust your offense to keep staying 2 score ahead everytime you end your offensive possession.

I wouldn't be super concerned about LSU's defense unless you start seeing the same cracks show up again in the next month or so.

Always enjoy reading your post, unlike some of your fellow bama posters here. You are 1 of a few who are capable of conversing over a topic. For people who don't come to this board to troll, it's refreshing.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say Texas ends up with a top 10 offense this season. I just think that offesne is built to rack up yardage and score some points on any defense they play. I wont stress too much about LSU's defense yet as the only comparable offense we will see like that is Bama's. Haven't been able to watch them that much early this season so I am not sure how fast they are running. Are they as quick as texas is getting to the line and running their next play?

Last years Alabama defense had all Alabama fans worried. Outside linebackers were injured start of year. DB's were all young. Then what I would say was our best db got hurt late in the year. Middle LB's were so hit an miss and often out of position.

It's a miracle we got to that Auburn game 11-0, honestly.

Funny thing is is that none of the games that we played before Auburn that season were even close. Closest deficit was 14 points, and that was the biennial, post-LSU, @MSU letdown game.

Yep - was a pretty bad SEC that year, though the A&M game showed some serious signs of "oh shite" with the total inability to slow them at all in the 4th quarter.

We also had a great offense that year.

Well they do play in a conference with almost no defense so that’s not really going out on a limb but ok.

I think Texas has a pretty good offense - though it doesn't strike me as really all that comparable to some of those other quick strike, go fast, air raid offenses. Much more Urban/Tebow like (which makes sense, obviously). They did a nice job playing to the QB and WR strengths (big guys, nice sideline routes, power runs).

No - we're actively moving away from that. We aren't going back to slow plodding offense, but we're certainly not going warp speed anymore.

I fellow bama poster just said Texas anked in the 40's of total offense last year... improving to top 10 would be a major jump yet? I'm confused.. A couple of yall rave about OU's having the number 1 offense in the country last year... but they are in the Big 12... OU being number 1 last year is impressive to you or no? If Texas is top 10, not impressive?

In terms of defensive efficiency, these are the rankings for Alabama over the last decade:

2016 - 97.4
2011 - 94.5
2015 - 91.6
2012 - 91.2
2017 - 89.9
2009 - 89.9
2018 - 88.4
2013 - 85.9
2014 - 82.5
2010 - 79.1

So last year was our 4th worst defense since 2009.
