LSU, aside from probably Texas has the strongest brand of all the other SEC teams. It’s right there with Bama, UGA and frankly those four are the current strongest brands in the SEC. The conference isn’t gonna give that up over a lawsuit filed by players, not even by LSU.

The other SEC teams will either refuse to play LSU if those players are on the roster or (less likely) they’ll vote to start the process of removing them from the conference.

And then I’m sure there are dumbasses that think a judge in Louisiana will be able to force games to be played

Have you read the 29 federal lawsuit. If you had, you’d realize the SEC has a mountain to climb, furthermore LSU voted against the rule therefore they have next to nothing.

I’ll preface this by saying I’m not a lawyer.

But here’s the important part for our legal discussion

Even if LSU formally voted against the rule, that would actually make my argument more interesting, not less.

Because the SEC’s federal lawsuit is essentially saying:

LSU agreed to the conference’s rules and is now violating them.

If LSU can establish that it expressly rejected the particular rule being enforced, the SEC’s contractual/association argument gets considerably more complicated.

And there’s another distinction that I think is getting lost in a lot of the coverage:

The SEC having a valid conference rule ? automatically having the constitutional right to obtain a federal injunction against LSU.

The SEC still has to establish the federal court’s jurisdiction and entitlement to the extraordinary relief it’s requesting.

And today’s Louisiana ruling makes that particularly important. The Louisiana judge has now issued a preliminary injunction preventing the NCAA from enforcing its eligibility restrictions against the affected players, clearing the way for them to be rostered by LSU.
