The problem is you dumb asses have the same feeling every year.

Hey dumb frick it wasn’t that long ago that LSU won 5 in a row (yes I know it’s not 6) and Bama was average for many years. Just a little hint from experience.... you may wanna tone down the arrogance a notch cause nothing lasts forever.

LSU is 7th in the SEC in YPC against average (4.87) in October.

I don't even know what that means. Is this SEC-only stats? Is this October-only stats? Is this total stats for SEC teams as of today?

I'm guessing it's the last of those, which means that you aren't really putting the following into any kind of meaningful context...

quote:

Ole Miss ran for 5.5 YPC against LSU
Auburn ran for 4.3 YPC against LSU
Florida ran for 5.1 YPC against LSU

UF & AU are 7-1 in SEC games when they aren't playing LSU. Compare that to how LSU played against weaker teams earlier in the season. I think it's fair to say, that yes, there has indeed been dramatic improvement.

As for Ole Miss, that's misleading. The Rebs didn't score a TD until there was 4:11 left in the 3Q, and they were already down by 2 TDs. So there was a little bit of soft run defense there to protect against the long pass.

Improved to the level where they should be expected to stop/slow down Alabama running the football?

Well now you're drawing Alabama into it. I'm not making too many claims about how good Alabama is. I'm trying to focus more on the LSU side, to show that this is a much different team than the one that played against Miss. State and Troy.

I have work to do tonight, but the game is a couple of weeks away, so I will probably follow up with more SEC-only stats when I find the time. All-game stats are mostly a waste of time.

Bama has improved as well from the beginning of the year.

Yeah. I get that, and every team should improve, but I do think LSU's "delta" for improvement this season is noteworthy for a few reasons.

#1. On opening day, LSU started 4 LBs, and 3 of them were liabilities that we were trying to cover up with. That's a terrible position to be in, trying to hide 3 LBs on your defense at one time. Now, LSU has only got 1 weak LB spot to work around.

#2. LSU got manhandled by Troy on the O-line, and at one point in the UF game, had 4 freshmen in at O-line at the same time. They held then (barely), and they got much better against AU & OM. Even now, the team starts 2 Fr., 2 So., & 1 Jr. on the O-line, so it's reasonable to expect more growth from them during the course of a season than you would a typical SEC O-line.

#3. At one point, LSU was missing an entire potential D-line with Lawrence/Alexander/Herron all out at the same time. Only Lawrence is starting now, but still, it's nice to have Lawrence & Herron back.

love the quiet confidence our fans have. This year feels totally different. We know it, Bama knows it, and the country knows it. The past several years we LSU fans kind of felt bad about this game.
