LSU basketball is not comparable to Kentucky football. 3 top 50 all time players. Couple of final fours. SEC titles. Top 3 in all time SEC wins. Had a stretch from late 70s into the 90s where they made the tourney every year. Trent Johnson won the SEC not that long ago.
Also, don’t throw rocks when you live in a glass house. Sutton mailed out cash to recruits. Rupp and Joe B Hall were every bit as dirty as Bear Bryant. If Calipari is clean today it’s inky because of some extremely recent epiphany. The reality is that the AAU basketball system and shoe companies created a situation where every player and school is tainted.

Wade's problem was the same trap that Hugh Freeze fell into. Too much, too soon, without building enough cover.
All of these recruits are being paid. It's all dirty. 5*s like Reid and Williams have been getting "benefits" since they were 15 years old. The people paying those benefits had expectations. Taking 5*s that you haven't cultivated is always going to bring serious heat

Those guys were easy and clear "gets" for LSU, there was no need to make offers outside the normal NCAA regulated scholarship.
They were clearly coming to LSU anyway, so why deal with tilting an offer more towards the player/parent and worry about not giving the runner enough of the pie?
Wade's actions were so unnecessary and will likely end his college coaching career.

Kentucky was after Smart hard. Plenty of schools were after Reid. Neither comes without a little something "extra". His point is, it's not like LSU was pulling 5*s with zero ties to the program or without a reasonable explanation.

LSU fans believe that WW was both brilliant enough to make the #4 Recruiting Class look easy, and dumb enough to get caught on wiretaps trying to lock down a 4* from a few miles down the road
