I believe they can give need based scholarships because it's an expensive private school. I think rice does the same thing. The amount of pro talent they've had at the college level since the mid 2000s is insane though

Vandy has a criminal amount of elite talent, and I wonder how they continue to get it in those kind of numbers being an expensive private school.

He is a solid 5th rounder, and that about is the max potential he can get from playing at a mediocre baseball school like LSU. So I think he should go. If he could tranfer to Arky without sitting out a year I think it would be smart because they could turn him into a potential 1st rounder. Hopefully Maineri allows hims to do this for his futures sake

I really don't feel like Laird, Stevenson or Chinea will be drafted high enough to warrant leaving a year early. Only if they get a crazy offer from a team with a ton of money outside the Top 10 rounds. I don't see any of them getting 7 figure or high 6 figure bonus money.

I would be perfectly okay with the Astros taking him at #5. He's a player and will be a solid pro for a long time IMO

YES!!!! That would be awesome!

Then they'd "Hunter Pence" him as soon as he got really valuable.

Do you expect him to come back next year or go pro?

Bregman is gone. We all knew that when he was a freshman.

education is a huge sell for them, the price of attendance withstanding. still don't know how they have been able to convince several first round picks to turn down several million for the opportunity to pay 30k+ a year after their scholarship money

Bregman will be a Top 20 pick in the Draft. The Yankees and Boston scouted him as a potential Top 15 but it'll depend on what's there when they pick.

RE: The rest of LSU's lineup, you can say goodbye to Laird. There's absolutely no way he goes higher next year without being an SEC POY candidate. Beyond that, his value will be depressed as a senior as none of them have any choice but to sign at that point.

Enjoy Laird this year. It'll be his swan song in Tiger Town. He'll be a Minor Leaguer come late June-early July.

Laird may not be drafted higher than the 35-40 rounds. Kid is a great college player but projects horribly at the next level. If his signing bonus isn't 6 figures, which it likely won;t be, he'd be better served by finishing his degree. There is little use for a slap hitting outfielder with no power and a weak arm in the pros. Players like that are a dime a dozen. No offense to him as he's been great for LSU, but it's just reality.

The 35-40 rounds is a bit of a ridiculous exaggeration. I don't disagree that he needs to put on a lot of weight to be able to get balls into major league outfields, but he's an amazing fielder with an arm that honestly has improved each year-though it's got a long way to go before you can say he's got a good one.

He's not coming back. I assure you.

Based on what? You know him or family?

He really doesn't project well at all to the majors. Zero power, slap hitter, below average arm...but has tons of speed. I'd be slightly surprised if he was drafted in the Top 10 rounds. I think Stevenson projects a bit better. The fact neither of them have high power potential or huge arms helps us out a lot in keeping them.

I would bet on Mark playing 4 years and finishing his degree.

Yes.

To clarify, I'm not claiming inside information. Just my hunch what I know about the situation.
