I'm more upset about the personalized smilies

Bookmark this thread for the next time the classic Rant argument of "well, he makes xxx amount of money. How much do you make?" is made

ETA: yes, I searched the phone# on the recpt. $120 at Taste of Tokyo in River Ridge, La. Sounds delightful

Tipping is archaic. Charge me the amount it costs to pay your staff adequately. I'll pay and that's that.

Directly paying someone else's employees and them skirting tax laws makes no sense.

I'm against tipping 20% just because but that's a fricking joke.

Yeah that picture of the receipt tells it all, dude is a douche.

Sure, there is a defiant possibility that the guy did an awful job. Donte looks really childish with the way he left that tip note either way.

This is a fair argument but the problem is that it doesn't happen that way, so many really need the tips. That doesn't mean they can provide terrible service and get tips.

That comes off as mocking the waiter/waitress but who really knows

That's why I always say that automatic gratuity is a double edged sword. You have the great servers that bust their arse to make sure the guest is taken care of. Autograt helps them.

Then you have the bad ones that have the attitude, "I'm getting a tip no matter what," and don't take care of their guests.

Louisiana doesn't require service industries to pay wait staff minimum wage. They get $2.13/hour and the law states that the establishment is to make up the difference if tips don't equal minimum wage. I've never heard of a place doing that, though

Well, I see your point but if individuals do a good job on rewarding the hardworking servers it should work out but of course it doesn't work that way every time.

Donte probably doesn’t eat out a lot.

I think there are many more states like that. I might be wrong but I believe it was like that in Arkansas when I was there. I think many states have fixed that though.

I completely agree. I'm a firm believer that if you give bad service then you don't deserve the bigger tip. Other things come in to play. It's not always that the server is bad. But a good server will do whatever is necessary to make the guest happy.

Now what I also can NOT stand is people punishing servers for the kitchen screwing up. Totally irks me to the ends of the earth.

Every place I ever heard of had the staff all split tips at the end of the night. Wait staff, kitchen, and bartenders all got cuts. So there were already hard feelings towards the bad attitude workers.

The restaurants in worked at never did that. We had to tip out the bartenders and hosts. That was based off a percentage of our sales.

The bars I worked at we generally did pool. But I worked with great people because it was a locally owned bar and the owner didn't play games. He'd can a bad employee without thinking twice.

Nah most places you're tips are your own, minus 1-3% for the bartenders, kitchen, hostesses and bus boy.

These days it's close to 3-6% if you have to tip out that many people. My store had no bussers or food runners. The kitchen got paid really well. We had to tip out host and bartender. Used to have to tip out Expo too, but they increased their pay.

Sign a $5 million contract and can't even leave %18? Yeah, he's got no business telling someone else to be grateful

Why leave 18% if the service was shite?

Considering the server went to twitter to publicly complain about a tip, the service was likely shite
