Hurting the school GPA

BATON ROUGE, LA — LSU President Wade Rousse expressed concern Monday that the university’s longstanding football traditions may be creating barriers in the school’s efforts to recruit more Asian-American students to campus.
Speaking candidly during a university leadership summit titled “Toward A More Globally Competitive LSU,” Rousse pointed specifically to the school’s beloved “Chinese Bandits” defensive tradition, which dates back to the 1950s and is still celebrated during football games at Tiger Stadium.
“We’re trying to become a serious academic institution,” Rousse said. “But it’s difficult to attract high-achieving students from Shanghai, Seoul, or Silicon Valley when their first introduction to LSU is 93,000 people screaming while a student section dressed like rejected background characters from Big Trouble in Little China waves pointy rice hats in the air.”
The “Chinese Bandits” nickname originated as a reference to backup LSU defensive players known for “stealing” the football from opponents. While long embraced by LSU fans as a cherished part of school history, Rousse acknowledged the optics have become “challenging” during international recruiting events.
“There are only so many times you can explain, ‘No, no, this is actually a tribute,’ before a family quietly backs toward the rental car,” Rousse said.
Sources within LSU admissions say the university has struggled for years to improve its academic standing within the SEC, where it routinely trails schools such as Vanderbilt, Florida, Texas, and Georgia in national rankings.
“We had one prospective engineering student from California visit campus last fall,” said one admissions official. “He was excited until the fourth quarter when the student section started doing karate noises every time Arkansas lined up on offense.”
Rousse clarified that he was “not attacking LSU traditions,” but merely “stating factual realities” about modern recruiting.
“These are real concerns families have,” Rousse explained. “Parents today want to know their child will feel welcome on campus, not feel like they accidentally wandered into a 1978 Chuck Norris movie.”
At press time, LSU boosters had reportedly formed a committee to address the issue by introducing a new mascot called “The Diversity Tiger.”

Certainly not a “tradition”
First they take tiger rag from us, then neck, now Chinese bandits!? My world is crumbling!
Universities will one day learn that if you tell young drunk college students they can’t do something, they will find a way to do it anyway, only worse

About the same time LSU quit playing defense. Convenient timing.

Good. Lane has taken a stand against racism. No more Chinese bandits. No more fighting tigers. No more neck. It’s 2020 all over again baby. Also you’re gonna need to remove your tiger habitat on campus. It’s a shrine to a racist symbol and nickname.

Unless LSU changes their name to one that doesn’t honor their confederate past - he’s a trolling hypocrite who doesn’t care about true change.

Lane is already causing positive change for the university. Wish others would fall in line but we have to realize how lucky we are to have such a righteous man of God leading the helm down here.

I've always felt the school itself is pretty solid.

It was.
Holistic admissions and the F. King Alexander era put a pretty big fricking dent in that. Ironically, increased diversity was the goal. Academic standards had to be lowered to accomplish that goal.
Now LSU is in the Ole Miss/MS State territory.

Truth: The Chinese Bandits were badass motherfrickers, according to my pops. He was a badass motherfricker, so he'd know.
