Can we go ahead and compare the cheating without being so subtle about it?

Gottfried won the SEC in 2002 - then the slide towards being a scoring team that couldn't guard anybody began. So we began in 2003.

Wade won the SEC in 2019 - .............So we began in 2020.

Gottfried was better at discreetly cheating for basketball players. Wade is better at not cheating on his wife (I assume).

scoring team

Going into last night's game LSU was leading the conference in scoring according to The Advocate here in BR. We have a bunch of fans on Tiger Rant that think LSU plays street ball on offense and that we never run plays.

Team's with highly recruited offensive players who play miserable team defense and are very good offensively (though streaky at times) with a side of cheating accusations?

I dunno, feels pretty on point. Gottfried stopped making NCAA Tournaments when he stopped signing Top 10 classes. If Wade keeps signing Top 10 classes they'll keep being a NCAAT team. If he doesn't, could very easily see a Gottfried esque fall off.

"All we do on offense is let Winston or Shelton dribble around and take contested 3s. They don't even try on defense. Our 3 point defense is to run out at an open shooter"

Yep

From LSU basketball use to be, I’m happy as can be on where we’re at now. Trent Johnson and Johnny Jones were hot garbage

For some reason, people think back on Gottfried and only remember the end. He went to 5 straight NCAA Tournaments and won 17+ games in 8 straight seasons. Things fell apart when he stopped recruiting elite offensive players.

His teams just had the same flaws every season that really end up driving you nuts over time, and they seem really similar to LSU's flaws the last 2 seasons.

LSU’s adjusted defensive efficiency has improved quite a bit since last year. What am I missing?

They're #13 out of 14 in the SEC in defensive efficiency this year. They were #13 out of 14 in the SEC last year. The only teams worse, both years, are Vanderbilt (who is 3-38 in their last 41 SEC games). Both are very bad.

But the offense is electric, though streaky. Again, that's kind of the comparison. Highly recruited players who are excellent offensive guys but seem to have no clue how to play team defense together.

Gottfried also took Bama to their only Elite 8 appearance.

Well for starters the LSU’s adjusted defense in 2020 was better than any of the Alabama defenses you posted.

Second you are leaving out 50% of will water relatively short time at LSU

You’re talking about a Trent but you’re using a very small sample size

By better you mean worse?

2020 LSU Defensive Efficiency - #179

Alabama hasn't had a team with defensive efficiency that bad in the entire KenPom era (or as bad as LSU currently has in 2021).

Gottfried's Worst Defenses
2008 - #130
2000 - #128
2006 - #118
2007 - #116

LSU Last 2 Seasons
2021 - #132
2020 - #179

The only big conference team that played worse defense than LSU last year was Vanderbilt

#152 - Nebraska (7-25)
#165 - Oregon State (18-13)
#166 - Wake Forest (13-18)
#179 - LSU (21-10)
#221 - Vanderbilt (11-21)

The only big conference teams playing worse defense than LSU this year are

#132 - LSU (10-4)
#134 - Wake Forest (4-6)
#148 - Washington (2-11)
#160 - Cal (7-10)
#176 - Oregon State (8-5)
#198 - Vanderbilt (4-7)
#199 - Notre Dame (4-8)
