BATON ROUGE, La. -- The LSU Athletic Department will transfer over $10 million this fiscal year to other components of the university for use in supporting LSU's academic, research, public service and other missions, Vice Chancellor and Director of Athletics Joe Alleva announced Monday.

“Our athletic department is sincerely committed to supporting the academic mission of the university, and we’re extremely proud to transfer over $10 million this year,” Alleva said. “These funds provide vital resources for our students, faculty and staff, and they help to sustain LSU as one of the top research institutions in the country.”

The athletic department has contributed a total of $43.5 million to the LSU-Baton Rouge campus over the past five fiscal years.

The surplus produced by the athletic department in fiscal year 2014-15 will allow an additional $2.85 million to be channeled to the university, creating a total fund transfer this year of $10.05 million.

This is bad news for LSU. This is how Tennessee's AD got into the predicament they are in right now. They blindly funneled millions of dollars per year to the University side even when revenue dropped. Recipe for disaster IMO.

The Tigers banked $48.5 million in net revenue from football in 2012-2013 – plenty to cover the $15.7 million lost by sports other than football and men’s basketball (which had $2.6 million in net revenue). However, LSU also reported $50 million in expenses not attributed to just one sport, offset by only $26.9 million in non-attributed revenue.

Like the other four athletic departments I’ve detailed at the top of this list, LSU contributed back to the University for non-athletic initiatives. The Tigers inked a check for $4.7 million and ended the 2012-2013 reporting year $7.5 million in the black.

LSU's finances are a mixed bag. On the one hand, you've got LSU Athletics making bank and giving to academics - - - - on the other hand you've got the school President poor mouthing to the media for damn near 6 months and alledging that he was "preparing bankruptcy papers" just a few short months ago. WTF?

Shrewd political maneuvering.

Budget Update
The 2015 Legislative Session has come to an end, and we are in the early stages of analyzing the bills passed and their effect on Louisiana higher education. Early indications are positive, though, pointing to higher education being funded at the same level as the previous fiscal year.

We commend our legislators for prioritizing higher education during this session and making sure that preserving funding for Louisiana’s colleges and universities remained a focal point of their discussions. Thanks also go out to our LSU family for staying informed throughout session and participating in the legislative process. We know that this session was particularly trying for those affiliated with our great university, and we are grateful for the loyalty and commitment shown by all. Once we have all of the details from our state leaders, we will update you on how the decisions made during session will play a part in LSU’s future. Until then, we appreciate your continued hard work on behalf of LSU.

Leftist trying to harm the Republican governor's presidential chances.

Someone in Washington asked/told him to do it and he complied... There's really no more to it than that.

Of all the announced GOP candidates, the left fears a Jindal presidency the most.
