High ratings for a game is not a qualifier for a rivalry. Would a Super Bowl be considered a rivalry?

I agree, but having your QB cry like a baby like AJ did in Tiger Stadium in 2012 would qualify.

Having your head coach leap into the arms (like a freshman cheerleader) of AJ after beating a two loss LSU team last year would also qualify.

The "LSU Effect" that little Nicholas Saban has spoken of, would also qualify: He has all but given credit to LSU for the losses to A&M in 2012 and AU. and OK. last year.

The obsession with stocking his team with La. players would also qualify IMO. Bama has 9 players from La., but if you follow recruiting he wanted to sign nearly half of the players on the LSU roster.

Bama can feel the historic balance of power shifting to LSU and feels helpless to stop it.

I am really enjoying the intensity of this series now, but when little Nicholas retires Bama will return to being just slightly better than MSU (see 1983-2006).

I agree that this game is not a rivalry and Bama should go back to trying to win the Iron Bowl. Auburn owns that series going back into the 90's.

If you had the same two teams playing each other every year you don't think it wouldn't.

It's a Big game... it's a HUGE game... Rivalry? Nah... when I'm not on this board I don't even think about LSU...

This is the key point. If not for Saban coming to Alabama and beating LSU in a NCG these guys wouldn't be calling us their rivals.

We literally have no reason to hate them. None. Besides recruiting we literally have no reason to clash with them.

They are a big game and a respected foe. They are those pissant Rocky Tops or lil bro. They are just a good LSU side.

As I said, once either team sucks no one will give a shite about this game.

Yes, because you're a great competitive team of the moment. If you guys sucked do you think that happens? If you stop being good, do you think anyone cares about this game?

You guys need to just accept the reality.

Only way this becomes a real rivalry is if you give us a reason to hate you (we don't, sane Gumps at least) and this back in forth extends another decade and a half.

If Bielema turns Arkansas into a powerehouse and you guys begin to suck, I guess that would as well make Arkansas our new rivals!

This shite is fricking stupid. It really depends on how you define a rivalry.

For the past 10 years, this game has been a rivalry game - similar teams that do not like each other, play every year, match each other in many ways, are competitive, the games mean a lot to each team, they are right near the top of biggest games of the season for each, the fans players and everyone else get excited for them, etc.

You can go around talking about games that mattered a long time ago and call them great rivalry games like Harvard-Yale or UT-Bama, but they don't matter anymore and no one gives a shite or watches (except the fans of those teams).

LSU-Bama is a top 5 rivalry game in the SEC by about every definition of a rivalry right now.

Some of you dipshits need to STFU about it not being one. It is.

Now frick bama, Geaux Tigers.

Lol you're the worst poster on this site.

The past 10 years? Can you count? In 2004 LSU were claiming YOU were their rivals not us. They literally claim whomever is best in the SEC West their new rivals while trying to ignore their real rivals in Ole Miss and Arkansas.

When I joined this place they were claiming Ole Miss wasn't a rival. Now Ole Miss is good and the tone has changed and they call it a rivalry.

Not surprised the village idiot of "lil bro U' came in to wade on a discussion that has nothing to do with his team.

That moment started in 2000 and will continue as far as the eye can see. Little Nicholas Saban woke the giant that is LSU football and you need to accept that reality.

I agree it's not a rivalry in the traditional sense.
LSU had two rivals historically and was able to make both of them quit (see Ole Miss and Tulane). Bama has two traditional rivals and is not doing so well against the in-state rival.

I don't care about national perception.

well I can remember when Bama wasnt relevant until Saban went to that shite hole called Tuscaloser.
We won the SEC in 1999, won the West in 2002, and had a 10 win season in 2005.

Okay. Let's try this from a different angle.

If we begin to suck, this "rivalry" in your minds will disappear just like our "rivalry" with Florida.

It's not a rivalry at all. At this moment it's a very competitive match between two good sides.

If this were to sustain for another 10-15 years and LSU would actually give us a reason to hate you guys then maybe we'd have ourselves a rivalry

Don't sleep on them man. I laughed too early on but he is about to turn that corner. Remember things get bad before they get good.

If Arkansas are patient I think he can come really good and build a decent program there.

It is a rivalry like UF Bama in 08/09 around then after Saban first got here. A little but more because of 1/9 and both in west. But not a true rivalry. It will lose a lot of luster when les or nick leaves

Agreed.

I disagree. As I pointed out in my original post in this thread, it is a rivalry that has everything to do with NS and how badly LSU fans want to beat him and how badly he wants to beat LSU. Bama fans rarely acknowledge the latter part of the equation.

Bert is a good coach and they are actually playing quality football despite their record. I just don't see them becoming a power in the SEC.
