OU Going Broke
Somebody in their finance department should have understood it is a terrible idea to take out large amounts of variable interest rate debt.
This debt is now resetting to a much higher interest rate and eating their lunch.

Is this really true? Wouldn't Sankey and co. have looked into OU's financial situation before inviting them to the conference?

This story is fake "President Gallogly" was only at OU for 10 months July 1, 2018 – May 12, 2019
LINK
Also OU is supposed to be 1.8 Billion in debt looking up A&M you appear to be 6.2 Billion in debt because ever school has debt.

Sounds like they need to dump money losing sports.
Norman Stadium set them back. Tennessee only does things in portions at Neyland once the money is there they start the next phase.
Football is the money maker but you can’t place all your eggs In the same basket.
I’m sure they will get it under control.

This is kind of old news. But why did we need to build so many freakin' building when the ones we had were already fairly contempory, if not still considered modern? It was kind of dsytopian really. Perfectly fine buildings in excellent condition and fit for purpose - but no let's build, build, build and even maybe a needlessly bigger one!
If they do decide its time tighten belts and maybe even let some people go because of that excess, I sure hope the powers-that-be take a hard look at the staff making those decisions.

The debt problem is the financial situation of the university, dipshit.
Has zero to do with the athletic program.
Stop trying to smear Daddy like the lowly twerps you are and go find a baseball corch.

Didn’t Auburn spend a gazillion dollars or so on their campus?

To be quite honest...
OU really didn't build that many buildings in comparison to what other Universities built over the last twenty years. They built a couple of dorms. One Engineering building and some stuff down at the Weather center.
They are in the process of building some more new dorms to replace the old towers.
But that is nothing compared to what other places have done.

OU's financial problems are also prevalent among all colleges and universities throughout the entire United States.
The only Power 5 schools that have an "A" rating financially are a few of the private ones: Stanford, Duke, Rice, Notre Dame and Northwestern, according to Forbes Financials.
According to Forbes, 74% of all educational institutions around the country are experiencing financial problems resulting from various factors. Very few Power 5 schools are operating in the black.
It's a mess, but Oklahoma isn't alone in this.

Myself and others have been saying for years and years that Universities are spending more than they should in an attempt to lure in more students. And now the chickens are coming home to roost. OU will be fine in the long run though.
Some nontenured professors are going to be sacrificed to save administrator jobs. Some academics will quietly get dumped. The people actually responsible for this will get a slap on the wrist or a chance to retire with a golden parachute (and then likely get hired by another University determined to make the same mistakes).
Where this trend is really going to cut a swath is through the smaller Universities who bought into this whole treat the school like a business trend. A lot of them have either gone under or are in the process of going under.
