re: Long shot but what if LSU runs the table. Beats 2 #1’s. Loss to Troy keeps us out?

The better question would be if LSU won out and so did Georgia until the SECCG, with Alabama also winning all their remaining games outside LSU....do either UGA or Alabama get in? LSU is not getting in with 2 losses, one being Troy, unless all hell breaks loose around the country.

This. PSU 2016 = example.

You are special ed. If we beat bama , the #1 team now , won out , then beat the new #1 team in georgia, we would most definitely go to the playoff. Troy loss or not.

Depends on what everyone else does. Let's say these teams finish with 1 loss, their resumes would look like this:
Ohio State - 1 loss to #5 Oklahoma, win over #2 Penn State and whoever they play in the Big10 Title game
Oklahoma - 1 loss to #14 Iowa State, win over #3 Ohio State #10 TCU, and #11 Oklahoma State
Notre Dame - 1 loss to #2 UGA, win over #11 USC (blowout), #14 Nc State, #9 Miami, and #18 Stanford
Clemson - 1 loss to SYracuse, win over #13 Auburn, #14 Louisville, #12 Va Tech, #20 Nc State, and whoever they play in the ACC Title game

Now compare that to what LSU would have:
blowout loss to #21 Ms State, loss to unranked Troy at home, win over #15 Auburn, #1 Alabama, and #1 UGA

I'm sorry, all those other teams will have very impressive wins as well, but their losses have only been to good football teams. You're certainly entitled to your opinion, but I live in reality and LSU has no shot at the playoffs unless all those teams with 1 loss start losing games. There are 13 P5 teams right now with 1 or fewer losses. We're not jumping them without some help. The SEC this year isn't what it once was. ANd you don't just get to omit the Troy loss. It happened and will be used against LSU, just like Penn State had Pitt used against them last year

Why would Alabama and UGA get penalized for losing to only LSU while LSU gets in getting blown out by State and losing to Troy? Are 2 losses better than 1?

LSU lost to Troy and were hammered by Mississippi State.

LSU making the playoff would be more than a long shot. It would be like trying to hit a target in China when you fire the shot from Kansas.

I don't think you're quite grasping the definition of "long shot"

You could probably get a pass on one slip up but you lost by 30 to the traditional SEC cellar dweller that is MSU also.

This coming from an Ole Miss fan? You've finished ahead of State in the standings a grand total of once since Croom was roaming the sidelines.

We're out, but it's the loss to Troy that eliminates us.

Miss St loss, score is bad but there's some leeway there, some precedent.
Miami was able to win it's 1st title after being blown out by Florida in it's opening game in the early 80's. Consider that at the time, Miami had no tradition or history other than occasional 7-4 teams, and this was pre-Spurrier Fla so that loss was bad too. Rest of the season bought the Hurricanes a ticket to the Orange Bowl.

11-1 LSU with an early bad loss to Miss St, you could cite injuries and team growth, and counter that with the quality wins over Alabama and Georgia that would be required. 1 loss SEC champ would never be left out.

Whatever dude. That game in the Dome was fd from the start. Internally LSU was split between 2 much different style QBs. Hell I sat next to Eric Reed from a flight outta NO to a layover is Salt Lake City. Very down to earth dude. So I asked him what happened. All he did was look at me with the slightest grin and said COACHING. That loss is on Miles and his miss use of talent. Did you forget two months before that we stepped on yalls throat time and time again with our defense. We out manned y’all during the season. Bama has no business being in that game. And frick yeah I’m salty abt it because I can’t stand Bama and that was the last time we beat y’all. We have to be due!!!!

That and the loss to Alabama. And Arkansas. And Butch's last stand.

In fact those will probably keep you out of anywhere but Memphis or Shreveport

November would have to be crazy and a couple of P5 conferences would have to have 2-loss champions.

Certainly not out of the question, but unlikely.

Our miracle was in 2007! And pigs flew in 1982. Don’t see either happening ever again but definitely not this year.
