Boar, it's not that they didn't make the NFL, or they weren't going to make the NFL. if these governing idiots with their 5 for 5 rule had done it early enough this year, these players probably would have tried to follow Kiffin to LSU and spend their fifth year getting better. In that case, they possibly could make the NFL after another year in college, but that was taken away from them because the ruling was made late, and they had already declared and made their decision. Then they failed out before making the week 1 roster and everybody else from 2022 gets a fifth year, but them. This is a 1 off, 1 time thing, a unicorn, and these kids deserve the right, like all their other peers to try to run through their fifth year, get better, and make an NFL roster. A LIFE CHANGING MOVE FOR THEM. The definition of an amateur, the definition of a professional, both need to be set in stone now that college players are becoming millionaires. Sankey and the SEC officials could not even come up with those definitions yesterday on the stand. They contributed to this whole frickin' mess with their ineptness, and now they need to take some responsibility for the fact that Sankey, at 4.3 MM a year, doesn't even know what the 5 for 5 rule actually says.
5 for 5 was a little too late for these guys to make an informed decision, and this could mean the difference between an NFL career for them and nothing, while their 2022 peers are getting the same advantage. The SEC and NCAA need to stop the ambiguity, stop moving the goal posts, figure out what the actual peofessional definitions are that they're trying to enforce, and let these kids have their fifth year. They can then put a clear stake in the ground and stop this insane crap going forward.
