"If he misses the playoffs, that's the bare minimum. It used to be winning the national championship. Now, it's making the playoffs and avoiding a 35-point loss like he did last year in the Rose Bowl," Finebaum said. "It was the surrender in the fourth quarter by Alabama that still has Alabama fans angry. They've never seen that before from the Crimson Tide."

quote:

"I'll spare you the 'I think Kalen DeBoer is a good football coach.' I think everybody does. The question is, 'is he going to win a championship at Alabama?' And my answer is no," Finebaum said. "In the last 60 years, only three people have won national championships, two of them happen to be the greatest coach of all-time on the day they retired. At Alabama, you can be unique, you can be different, but Kalen DeBoer, to me, just doesn't have the right ingredients to win the title there."

Basically, you have to be a GOAT coach to win a title at Alabama, and that isn’t what you have on your sidelines.

Enjoy the Independence Bowl, Bama.

Meanwhile, LSU wins titles with grass eating, toss dive enthusiasts and borderline illiterate shrimp boat captains.

A great American said this about you haters. Dear haters, Someday your team may be good enough for you to be more interested in your team winning than my team losing. Until that day then keep losing losers.

Now that’s rich. Have you looked at the posts your fellow Bama fans have made about LSU over the last three weeks?

LOL, Alabama has had 3 other coaches win NC while at Alabama, and 2 o them won multiple titles.

Yes, Alabama has had the two greatest coaches, but they were there for decades. Even in down times Alabama still competes for the NC (look at last year, Alabama was in the playoffs, in 1989 Bill Curry had Alabama playing Miami for the title in the Sugar Bowl)

The only thing that stopped Alabama from winning more from 1997-2007 was Alabama was on probation.

You are wish dreaming

The Greatest Coach of All Time (or a list of the coaches who have won a national championships at Alabama)

Wallace Wade (1923-1930): 3 national championships
Frank Thomas (1933-1946): 1 national championship
Bear Bryant (1958-1982): 5 national championships
Gene Stallings (1990-1996): 1 national championship
Nick Saban (2007-2023): 6 national championships

The two questionable championships were not included, only the 16 which are undebatable.

Alabama has been fortunate to have the greatest coach of all time 5 different times.

Alabama has had a national championship winning coach at the helm for 71 of the past 100 years.

The pathetically insecure LSU fan can do nothing but obsess and post about Alabama and Ole Miss.

It’s a true psychosis.

Frank Thomas (1933-1946): 1 national championship

Uhmmm, I guess you're counting 1941 as the title.

Alabama's claim to the 1941 national championship is widely considered questionable because they finished the season with a 9-2 record and ranked only #20 in the AP poll. Many critics argue that this title is among the most dubious in college football history.

TYPICAL...Gump claim

Gene Stallings won a national title and in 1994 was 1 point away from another undefeated season. Is he also a GOAT coach? I mean, we all love him here, but he wasn't a "GOAT" coach.

That said, even Mike DuBose won a conference title and beat Spurrier's Florida team twice in a season.

Teams that would have been in the playoffs under other coaches that didn't play for or win a title that year:

1986 Perkins
1989 Curry
1991 Stallings
1994 Stallings
1996 Stallings
1999 DuBose (Won conference)
2005 Shula

Now it does seem as if we're being "punished" for not having any Gene Chizik's or Ed Orgeron's, coaches who won titles DESPITE their incompetence, and both had Heisman QBs to lead the way (neither coach even sniffs a title without Cam Newton or Joe Burrow) as well as having two coaches that coached here for 42 of those 60 years (and if you include Stallings' tenure, 49 of those 60 years).

Kind of a "how dare we not get an incompetent coach that recruited a Heisman QB during one of those remaining 11 years!"

Also, I bet I could easily find 11 years at any program with no titles under coaches who didn't win a national title at any point in their career.

So really Finebaum's only argument is that none of the other coaches got lucky with a QB and punched above their weight class?

Is that REALLY the argument you're making, that we should be ashamed at our lack of Chizik's and Orgeron's?

Yeah, I'm good, thanks.

Why do you have to drag poor Auburn into this?

Coach Bryant did not win a NC before he came to Alabama

Coach Stallings had a losing record before he came to Alabama

Coach Saban was considered an average coach (although he did win one NC at LSU) before he came to Alabama.

I would say Alabama makes good coaches great
