People seem to be poles apart when it comes to predicting South Carolina's season in 2022 so let's take a look.
Carolina in 2021 finished the season 7-6 (3-5 SEC) and unranked in either poll.
2021 Schedule
vs Eastern Illinois W 46 - 0
@ East Carolina W 20 - 17
@ Georgia L 13 - 40
vs Kentucky L 10 - 16
vs Troy W 23 - 14
@ Tennessee L 20 - 45
vs Vanderbilt W 21 - 20
@ Texas A&M L 14 - 44
vs Florida W 40 - 17
@ Missouri L 28 - 31
vs Auburn W 21 - 17
vs Clemson L 0 - 30
vs North Carolina W 38 - 21
2022 Schedule
Sat, Sep 3 vs Georgia State
Sat, Sep 10 @ Arkansas
Sat, Sep 17 vs Georgia
Sat, Sep 24 vs Charlotte
Sat, Oct 1 vs SC State
Sat, Oct 8 @ Kentucky
Sat, Oct 22 vs Texas A&M
Sat, Oct 29 vs Missouri
Sat, Nov 5 @ Vanderbilt
Sat, Nov 12 @ Florida
Sat, Nov 19 vs Tennessee
Sat, Nov 26 @ Clemson
I am thinking Arkansas, Georgia, A&M and Clemson are losses and Georgia State, Charlotte and SC State are wins.
So that leaves the following as toss up games.
Oct 8 @ Kentucky
Oct 29 vs Missouri
Nov 5 @ Vanderbilt
Nov 12 @ Florida
Nov 19 vs Tennessee
If you can go 3-2 against these teams that will put you at 6-6 for the season. 4-1 would bump you to 7-5.
I will go with 7-5 for Carolina in 2022.
What does the rant think?

I was going to give them an auto W for that one, but they beat Vandy by 1 point at home last season. I fell pretty certain they will beat them, but a 1 point win at home is not an auto win. imo

That both is, and is not, a forgiving schedule. They have some layups but going to Arkansas could be a real test early in the year.
I hate to knock my USC buddies but I think 6-6 is likely. This would not be a bad thing. They are building talent. They will go to a bowl game with that record. 7-6 with a bowl game win is a nice spot this early in a ground up rebuild.
I think this year sets the table for next year. I think USC will be very dangerous next year.
This is with the caveat of I think Florida will at least not be horrid this year. If they are, 7-5, 8-5 after the bowl game. Which would be even better for USC.
If USC was a stock I'd put them as a buy right now.

I think I have no idea about their QB or anyone else on the team ATM. I'll just put em down for 7ish and call it good.

7-5 or 8-4 but it will still be better than Florida

Gee. We played 4 different QBs last season, one of whom was a frickin' GA. We have upgraded at every single position. I'm not saying we will win the East by any means, but we will beat the brakes off of Vandy.
Just think... We beat Florida by an assload more than we beat Vandy by.

a 2021 home game with Auburn is replaced with a trip to Arkansas.
quote:yes
Georgia State, Charlotte and SC State are wins
quote:Gamecocks will be underdogs in all 3 no doubt
Arkansas, Georgia, A&M ... are losses
quote:Vanderbilt was one of the home wins - with a QB who played 38 minutes on a broken foot and then a Grad Assistant turned QB who delivered a game-winning TD with less than 00:30 4Q. the win over Vandy was USC's 13th in a row and 27th of the 31 total games played.
So that leaves the following as toss up games.

Oct 29 vs Missouri
Nov 5 @ Vanderbilt <=====
Nov 12 @ Florida
Nov 19 vs Tennessee
if Carolina was gonna drop a game in the USC/VU series it would have been in 2021. the avg margin of victory in the series for the Gamecocks in Nashville is actually greater than at W-B. Carolina with a healthy SR7 wins this by 3+ scores.
quote:USC won 10 straight and 13 of 14 over UK before the current 7 of 8 streak the Wildcats have tattooed on Carolina's forehead. I suspect the game in Lexington will run that to 8 of 9 for UK this fall.
Oct 8 @ Kentucky
quote:this series follows a pattern. USC won the first 2 SEC games ever played between the schools. Missouri won the next 2. USC then won 3 straight. Missouri has followed with the 3 most recent wins in the series. if the pattern holds - USC wins in 2022.
Oct 29 vs Missouri
quote:UF has the WLOCP and a trip to TxA&M prior to USC. Carolina hosts Missouri & travels to Nashville. I like USC's chances to steal a road win here.

Gamecocks will likely find themselves with 6 regular season wins again in 2022 but the skill/talent in Columbia year 2 for Beamer he didn't have year 1 - could lend to some surprise wins nobody saw coming. USC's OL and the defense's ability to stop the run will largely influence what kind of season Carolina will have.

I think South Carolina improved a lot this offseason, but I also think too much is being made of the finish to last season, as Florida was basically an FCS team at that point and Auburn is about to embark on their own period of uselessness much akin to our last decade. They lost to Missouri which is honestly giving me pause about predicting them to go 8-4 and finishing 3rd in the East, but I think I'm gonna stick with it. Florida is gonna be pretty bad I think, and I think Tennessee will be deflated late after starting 4-0. That game is at Willy Brice and I got SC on a pretty good late season run. Without a QB this team was horrific last year, with a bonafide one I think they're a solid midpack squad that isn't the best at anything but does a solid job at every position.
