Ole Miss

Here’s your key variable.

But that variable is supposed to be the reason this season is impressive.

Those rankings included portal transfers.

And ranking dont mean shite if they do or do not produce.

Kiffin's success in the portal was that those players hit more often than not.

One of the dumbest things I’ve seen posted on this site & I check the scoreboard on game days.

It’s Monday, quit drinking.

Have you heard about Kelly’s recruiting techniques?

I mean, I wouldn't have thought dryhumping recruits would generate a lot of highly ranked classes, but Kelly still seemed to be pulling them in...

LSU fans just want an offensive tactician to lock down one side of the ball & not get outschemed by every opponent.

Let’s talk about Orgeron’s ole miss tenure. The fact he won a natty here will never not be hilarious.

If he gets another cupcake schedule like this year they might be dangerous.

It was a rebuild situation before NIL/portal, that takes time. Saban went 7-6 his first year at Bama with a loss to ULM, but everyone knew it was trending up. Not comparing him to Saban, point is just that you can't just look at the record. There's a bigger picture there. There is a reason UT fans didn't want him to leave.

I didn't know that Alabama was trending up at all in 2007. We lost 4 of our last 6 including a loss to ULM. Felt like shite really. Especially since my biggest memory of Saban at that time was shutting him out 31-0 in BR with Fran.

He was in his 30s and they forced Jamarcus Russell on him.

And since then he's grown a ton and shown that at FAU and Ole Miss. NFL also loves second chances and right now loves young, offensive gurus.

He has matured some since then, I'll agree with that. But not a ton. He still does the same shite that got him fired at USC for example.

And the way he handled everything this year kinda puts his maturity back in doubt.

We'll see. All I know is he's going to need to be a different person to meet LSU expectations because he's never had real success in his coaching history, and his antics often bites him in the arse. Kinda like him calling out that reporter who called him a hoe, only to turn around and leave days later. Now everyone is calling him a hoe. Just shoulda let it go but couldn't help himself.

His actual success was he only played 2 ranked teams total this year and went 1-1 against them.

He bailed because he knew he wasn't going to get another opportunity like this.

Maybe he can have success at LSU, I can't see the future. But I'm saying the same thing I said when you hired Brian Kelly - he's gonna have to be a different coach to meet LSU expectations.

And you did win one with Coach O, so it's not impossible. I'm not sure Kiffin is quite the motivator that Coach O was though.

I mean if Lane does end up bringing O back to LSU...O has said publicly he would coach for Lane there.

He's a good recruiter and can get people to run through walls.

I thought retaining your current DC was the best move LSU has made this off season.

That's right.

Congrats on being an old geezer, waiting by the tube to see how the Nebraska-Colorado game turns out before making your bowl plans.

The goal back in the day was to make the Sugar Bowl, which had nothing to do with Nebraska-Colorado.

If you made the Sugar Bowl, then it probably meant you were playing for a chance at a national championship.

Agreed. Defense was never really an issue besides the running QB for LSU, but I mean who doesn't have that issue in some form. LSUs issues were offensive (literally). Major deal keeping Baker.

He was head coach at USC and Tennessee. What makes you think this will be any different?

Yes, because nothing has happened since then to show that Lane has grown as a coach.

Man, we almost made it thru Page 1 with rational posts from Bama fans.

Yup. Now we just wait to see if Tulane pulls him away to replace Sumrall. Gotta be very tempting for Blake if the money is there as it's his alma mater and would be a great opportunity to be a head coach if that's what he wants career path wise.
