It's that poisoned tree. It leaked into the local water supply.

It’s crazy the spiral downward Auburn has had. They were solid for almost all my life and it’s like they just folded all of a sudden
They sold their souls to the devil for the Prayer in Jordan-Hare and kick six.
Many people don't realize that without the Prayer, Kick Six would've meant nothing. Bama would have already been in the SECCG.

The same thing happened to Tennessee. They are just now climbing out of the hole with JH, but it is mystifying. I think the explanation that there are only so many good players to go around is as good as any. With Bama, UGA and Ole Miss doing well, something has to give I suppose.

That is one helluva analogy. Great pull.
Except for the part that I respect the hell out of the Poles. And then there is Auburn. They dont have that level of fight, pride, or even singular identity (plainsman war damn eagle tiger)

Tennessee's fall from 2009 to 2020 made no sense. Tennessee had historically been a very consistent program. From 1926 to 2008, Tennessee's winning percentage was around .735
Auburn has always been a boom-or-bust program. It's a little weird that they have had these sustained bad outcomes this decade, but they haven't been a consistently good program historically.

You predicted in a thread about TPOS Auburn players that someone would mention Fairly?

I predicted a couple days ago you guys would bring up Fairley before the week was over. Congrats for being The One
y'all still show clips of his personal fouls on your big screen every other year. don't act like we're the weird ones.

their deal is/was the exact same as present day auburn and present day (well through 2025 I guess?) florida. Coaching. Plain and simple.
Get a good coach and you're fine. Miss on a good coach and you can absorb it if it doesn't drag on. Hire 2 bad coaches in a row you're in trouble. Hire 3 in a row and you're fricked.
past his prime fulmer-1 year kiffin-butch-pruitt
chizik-some decent gus years-harsin-freeze
muschamp-mcelwain-some decent mullen-napier
none of these are a recipe to recapture the former glory that came before them.
the good thing though in this NIL era is that if you just hit it right and make a good hire you can be palyoff bound within 24 month
