The funding for secondary sports can not run out before the primary sports are cut proportionally.

Texas was ground zero for Title IX.

What about NIL funding?

quote:

The U.S. Department of Education initially issued guidance stating that NIL deals could potentially violate Title IX if the distribution of payments was not proportional between male and female athletes. However, this guidance was later rescinded, and the Department of Education stated that Title IX does not apply to the allocation of NIL payments, according to The New York Times.

NIL funding isn't from the schools themselves, so I'm guessing that's why it was rescinded.

The shared revenue part could be different though.

I admit I don’t know how this works but I’m sure that many of those sports should not be included in any ranking. Fencing and bowling come to mind first. Seems like everyone is not being scored equally.

LSU is the premier sports program in the country

I don't know about premier sports program in the country, but LSU has won the most national championships by an SEC school.

LSU is more about winning natties than earning Learfield participation trophies.

Congrats on your 13th place in men's swimming, by the way.

Florida has some work to do to climb into the top 10, as Florida and Stanford are the only two teams to be ranked top 10 every year of the award.

School - Titles - Sports
Texas - 63 - 14
Arkansas - 53 - 8
LSU - 51 - 9
Florida - 47 - 16
Oklahoma - 45 -7
Georgia - 34 - 10
Alabama - 26 - 5
Tennessee - 20 - 9
Auburn - 17 - 5
Texas A&M - 15 - 8
Kentucky - 14 - 4
South Carolina - 6 - 3
Vanderbilt - 6 - 3
Mississippi - 2 - 2
Missouri - 2 - 2
Mississippi State - 1 -1

What did I get wrong?

Lots of teams try and count extra titles and not just Bama.

I’m okay with any sport that 80% of schools participate in. Are we going to add Ultimate Frisbee, Quiddich, and Pickleball to the rankings? Where do we draw the line?

Arkansas generally finishes in the top 20 in these rankings and have finished as high as #5 a few years ago. The program has done a good job of being competitive overall for a smaller school in a smaller population state. The school isn’t a big name but folks know who they are.

My count was through January of this year and my Arkansas count always includes the two titles won that the NCAA tried to take back years ago because of Tyson Gay getting a free sandwich.
