People did a lot of shite back in the day that doesn't make sense today.
Other pep rallies try to fire up the crowd while downplaying the opponent. These are not unique to A&M. There are nuances to it that make it unique I guess and the fact that it is well-attended gets noticed.
Here's an LSU pep rally. It looks only marginally better with a white dude dancing like a douche. Why is he doing that? Cringe.

I mean dancing is a relatively normal activity.

Probably what goes on at most colleges I'd guess...house parties and Northgate/bars. Also, it's not just Aggies. Visiting fans show up.
