It’s probably gonna move that way. And the players will collectively bargain and get a share of the ESPN money.
That makes sense. And it’s up to Congress to pass laws. The Supreme Court kneecapped the NCAA already.

It is a concept that Lane has used a hell of a lot.
If you can't see how they are tied together, you're missing the point of his comments entirely.
NIL and the portal are two separate things, yes. But the windows that open allow players to go NIL shopping. There's no guarantee of anything. I'm all for players making money off of their success, but with these two systems combined, it sways everything in the player's favor and has no guarantee for the teams. To prevent this wild west system that is in place now, we must have NIL caps as well as, and I think most importantly, some kind of penalty for transferring on a whim. Maybe they don't have to sit out the entire season, but maybe they need to sit out the first 6 games of the season.

You know, I thought maybe you wise guys might have watched him on the SEC network or on a streaming service. Sorry wise guys, look it up for yourself in the time you take to bash...

He said it has little to do with NIL marketing. It has become "pay for play", period.

Your thread title makes it seem like there would at least be an explanation, but no, you couldn't even do that. Then you get hormonal on people that call you out on this saying we can do it ourselves when you are the one that brought it here

Take your L.

Lane says this every chance he gets. No clue why people keep asking him this question. It's probably the 10th time he's had a similar quote in the last year. I don't blame him, just not sure why reporters keep asking him the same questions.

He talked about NIL and revenue sharing for a good 15 minutes ... amazing how much they wanted to ask him about NIL and transfer portals rather than his Ole Miss football team.

They are related. And we agree. The portal is what makes it free agency. Calling it NIL misses the point - because NIL isn’t free agency without the portal.

He was kind of a "downer" but made it clearer than anyone I've heard.
You had one job.

The Lane Train is just following his mentor discussing the eventuality of NIL disaster. If you've created an economic system that can't regulate greed it is doomed for failure.
Kiffin won't get the proverbial, he's just worried about losing his advantage argument, like Coach Saban, but the problem remains. College football is becoming a crapfest in a hurry.

Glad you brought us a Facebook status instead of a summary of what Lane said

He also said it was cheating....
It's not cheating if everyone can do it now.

Kiffin was spot on! Cheers to him for telling it like it is.

They both buy the kids. I took some of his comments as directed to certain schools who come out of now where and sign an athlete by throwing bank at the 18 year old kid. His mentioning of " just notice the top teams the next few years" is an interesting comment.

I don't know why you are getting downvoted for this. NIL is not main the issue here as it relates to Kiffin's comments, its clearly the transfer portal. No portal and boosters of other schools aren't offering NIL deals to transfers knowing they lose a year of eligibility.
The portal is also the only part of the equation that the NCAA and its member schools can control. The supreme court has a already given a de facto ruling that will severely limit any attempts at restricting athletes rights to their NIL and at the very least tie up the attempts at restrictions in litigation for years.
If anything, the NCAA needs to lessen its restrictions on NIL that prevent it from being used as a condition to attend a certain school. Remove restrictions and, an NIL contract could be written that prevents a kid from leaving without voiding said contract. That is currently impermissible under the NCAA regs.

Why does the SEC continue the charade of NIL? Everyone knows you just pay the players.

Posted on 7/20/23 at 3:35 pm to mpwilging
Removing the 1 year penalty for transferring was some kind of asinine.
