A few things:
1) Governor Landry sounds like he is straight out of Swamp People.
2) I know LSU is a state university and that the head football coach is a state employee, but it still can’t be too comforting knowing that the Governor is meddling in the search process and that the athletic director apparently won’t be leading the search. Seems like a recipe for division in the athletic department.
3) Governor Landry is blasting the agent who represents most of the big name coaches in college football. Those coaches hire Jimmy Sexton for a reason. If the Governor didn’t want Sexton around, then how is LSU supposed to hire any of Sexton’s clients (such as Lane Kiffin)?

I’m ignorant of the hiring and contractual arrangements of big time coaches. So, by the Governor saying the state is buying out the contract, then the original contract must been approved by the state?
I thought boosters ponied up money for coaches salaries etc.
Can someone please explain to me and those who are ignorant of how coach contracts are structured explain if you can.

lsu is running such backwoods po dunk operation down there. they’d feel pretty embarrassed by this if they had any sense, but they don’t. oof. very unattractive to any coach with options.
So The Waterboy isn’t actually a comedy. It’s a documentary.

The state isn't buying it out.
What Landry actually said -
quote:
“I’m tired of rewarding failure in this country and letting the taxpayers foot the bill,” Landry said.
He never specifically said taxpayers are paying the buyout, because they aren't. He just hinted at it to spark outrage and grandstand.
And of course, some gullible folks here ate it up.

I'm sure they'll eject him after this torpedoes any hope of getting a successful P4 head coach

It sounds like Woodward will likely be terminated once a new president is in place.

Pretty bad timing to be looking for a new football coach when they don’t even have a president and AD in place.

Yep, I would have personally waited until after the new president was in place but that's just me.

Maybe, but the Governor not wanting the man who's responsible for the two biggest buyouts in history to be the man that hires the next at his State school, is kinda understandable
I get your point, but there is a level of tact & decorum needed here..& any politician worth his salt KNOWS THIS!
My goodness, this is was awful. Coaches crave control, and the HC / AD relationship is the most important on campus. This is ridiculous! This is a Top 5 job...I can't believe how poorly this was done.

Maybe the big money donors said, “we aren’t ponying up on the next guy!”

It will make more sense to you when you understand that Landry doesn't give a shite about LSU, he just wants to make headlines.
Why do you think he twice mentioned Trump in a conversation about a football coach?

I doubt it, he isn't calling the shots ultimately.
He won't even be involved once a new president is announced next week.

He got involved today and everybody saw it! I’m pretty sure every HC wants to know WHO is calling the shots and your governor just kneecapped your AD. Good luck!
