That's....how coaching works?

Students learn from mentors, time rolls on. Do you attribute Belichick's success to Bill Parcells?

I think every team in America would take that. How is this supposed to be an insult?

The only way it ever happens is if his ego gets so big he wants to prove he can do it at Bama too. I'm not betting on it.

Why would Kirby feel the need to prove it at Alabama? He’s winning titles at UGA of course he could do it at Alabama and any other of the top programs. Proving it would be trying to win a title at Ol Miss or South Carolina.

Yep. At year 7. People were saying Dabo was the next Saban just a few years ago. When Kirby wins 6 Championships in 12 years we'll talk about Kirby being 'even' with Saban.

The difference for what UGA has built and what Clemson did is fairly obvious if you look at it logically... but many fail to do so.

Clemson didn't build their success through top recruiting classes. They had good classes, but not top 3 level. Their success came with hitting on a couple of great QB's... mainly Deshaun Watson and Trevor Lawrence. Several other teams have ridden good but not elite recruiting and great QB's to championships. Auburn with Cam. LSU with Joe Burrow. FSU with Jameis Winston.

UGA didn't achieve success the same way. They did it how Bama did in the early days. Stacking great recruiting classes.

2016 - (transition year) 6th
2017 - 3rd
2018 - 1st
2019 - 2nd
2020 - 1st
2021 - 4th
2022 - 3rd
2023 - 2nd

Now Bama hasn't lost their recruiting touch... UGA has just elevated their recruiting to a similar level. Clemson never did that... and that's why UGA is set up differently going forward.

I don't think he will.

It would be something to follow Saban immediately and win a few more. Since "no one wants to be the guy to follow the GOAT."

If he followed Saban and then won 2, maybe 3 titles at Bama, he'd probably pass Bear and end up as the #2 coach all time.

But again, I'd say there's a 0.00001% chance that happens.

Kirby has 3 more years to win his 3rd NC before he’s the age that Saban was when he won his first.

Smart was an assistant at LSU in 2004. So there you go!

The Clemson comparison isn’t quite the same. Was widely suspected that Clemson’s coordinators were carrying Dabo and while he was recruiting well (particularly DL and QB) it wasn’t quite the same as UGA and Bama. Without a generational QB, they don’t appear to be elite. Will be fascinating to see if Dabo has a second act.

And he didn't create the blueprint at Bama. What's your point?

To be fair, two of those games we led nearly the whole way and were decided in the final seconds. Could just as easily been 3-2, not that it matters at this point.

OR 0-5.

Apparently Kirby perfected it.

Thank you for being a voice of reason during this whole time.

Georgia is not (at least yet) supplanting Alabama. IF we become the bigger power, it will take nothing away from what Alabama has accomplished or will accomplish in the future. It does not take away anything from Saban. He is the GOAT, and probably will be for a long, long time if not forever. His legacy is locked in and secured. For some Alabama fans to feel disrespected or insecure is silly.

Actually, a lot of Saban's success was due to having Kirby as a coach and recruiter.

Bammers get sad when you mention that little point.

Kirby is doing great but he has a long way to go to be anything like Saban.

I mean, he is still very young and new to coaching, so I don't think this is too off the wall.

Out of curiosity...what do you think Kirby has to do to be "something" like Saban? Are you talking about accomplishments, demeanor, or what exactly?
