Wait. I'm confused.
I've been told how bad UGA is because of 1980 and all.
But you are making it sound like championships grow on peachtrees.
Which is it?
There's some kind of disconnect between Georgia recruiting and the production on the field.

Under Richt or Kirby?
Under Richt we generally finished 3-5 in the SEC in recruiting. Kirby has taken that to another level and raised the bar. I feel like now that he has his upperclassmen in place the expectations of a national championship are greater.

That's just silly thinking.
Everyone knows they grow on cypress.

There is? If so, it ain’t much. Top 1-5 in recruiting overall last 3 years. Top 5 in terms of results The field.

This year marks year 5. He is officially 1/3 into the amount of time Richt got.
So at the end of 2020...not now.

I meant as far as winning a championship

Butch Davis never coached at Tennessee but we would've welcomed him with open arms had we realized early on what we had in brick by brick Butch Jones.

This season marks a third of Richt's tenure.
It's not a hard concept to grasp.

But you said “through” which implies the 2020 season is done.
It’s not a hard concept to grasp.

UGA and that is a Powerhouse school
Weird. All I hear on here is that UGA is bad because they haven’t won a natty in 40 years. Is UGA a “power house” or bad?

They’ve waited 40 years. What’s another 10?
Malzahn has already passed Chizik’s tenure and has less to show for it.

Is this really that hard to understand?

It’s subjective. I’m a UGA fan and I don’t consider UGA a powerhouse program. Powerhouse to me means elite and UGA isn’t elite and never has had a history of being elite. UGA has been great with Smart and bordering elite, but hasn’t crossed that threshold. Smart did have UGA’s best season in 40 years and has a winning record against top 10 opponents, so I’m more than fine letting him continue trying to get to elite status.

I think the posters that are calling it a powerhouse program are referring to the fact that they have everything necessary to compete for and play for national titles as far as recruiting, facilities, money, etc.

Quit deflecting.
This thread is about Kirby and UGA.

Since Smart’s tenure plenty of other schools have had the same benefits and have done worse than UGA. Smart has had UGA in contention more than any other UGA coach, so I don’t really understand the point of the thread.

Except the culture.
There's a culture problem there.
Like Texas.

One of the top recruiting States that is why any HC have no problem recruiting for UGA. Plus other top recruiting States borders Georgia. Mississippi have hard time due to lack of recruiting in the State of Mississippi. Missouri is because lack of good HC/recruiter that have not yet get the top instate to go to Mizzou. I believe the AD have finally hired the right HC to make the change in general.

And here's part of the culture problem.
The fans defend being the bridesmaid, but don't demand to be the bride.
LSU was laughed at for hiring O. But we also let it be known that contention was not good enough and he understood that.
Do you see the difference?
